I am trying to replace a single piece dead business stereo (with tape player) with a 2 piece CD53, both are flat pin connectors, but I can't figure out how to plug in the 2 piece head unit as there is a side plug on the lower part - where does that come from/ goto?

I must be having a slow moment - please bear with me. A picture tells a 1000 words, even if they are from a naff camera phone (!)

This is the old head unit that is broken, it is a one piece unit.

This is its connectors from the back.

This is the new unit, which is in 2 pieces
Top CD bit

Bottom Display bit

And the associated connectors:
The top bit is identical to the old unit

It is this bit that is new

It is the last image that shows the connector that I can't figure out what connects to it. It seems to be the only one on the bottom display unit, and I have assumed that something must connect here for it to work.

Advice much appreciated. (I have my fingers crossed as I have really got stuck here)

i have just found a pic online that shows the connections that i think I need:

www.bmwtips.com/tipsntricks/My%20business%20CD%20i...

3rd image down, image URL

www.bmwtips.com/tipsntricks/My%20business%20CD%20i...

This example i think is a round pin version (by looking at the other pics), but I need something similar, see the connector going to the bottom display unit, that is what I can't figure out.

(have to edit into the browser bar as I can't post URL's yet)

Got my fingers crossed that there is simply an adaptor to buy or some trick here..... hints much appreciated ....

£135 off ebay, might be up for sale if it does not connect to my particular E39(!) Hopefully there is a way, as it is in nice condition.
