First spotted. Me, by traffic plod. As part of the recently well known clamp down on all things dodgy with number plates, copper says my plate is too small. He thought I was a quick tick in the 'you're nicked' box on his way back to the cop shop.
Said I am getting a fixed penalty. Once I explained the DVLA gumf on the documented exception, he had no idea what I was talking about, but was unsure about his position so let me off...but then pulled out his magic ruler and said that even if the plate size is legal, the character height aint.
Spent the last week arguing my position to the dealership who sold the car with said plate. They say that on account of my car not being an import, I have to have the really big one. I said the definition of 'import' is questionable especially given that they sold the car with the suspect plate. 'Go look at the DVLA stuff on European Community Whole Type Approval'. This was a step too far for the sales manager.
Anyone know of a documented reference to the CV8 being an import or otherwise (RE DVLA reference to '...certain imported vehicles...'
