Finally got my megasquirt on coilpacks installed and running on car. Its now been mapped by Phil Ringwood www.extraefi.co.uk and it has transformed the car.

I cant believe how much more responsive it feels now, I have no low end shunt and it keeps pulling and pulling now. Fuel economy seems much better also and how quick it seems through the gears is awesome!! By far the best mod I have done. I stand by my word if I can do it anyone can :-P

I seriously recommend this as a starting point its simply awesome.

Hi Ive shelved the turbo idea until next year when the body will be off. Most of the items I have got now alredy so watch this space smile

The megasquirt was the first thing that would be needed though so thought it would be a good start.

I have a John Eales trigger wheel fitted to it, very good quality item indeed.

And as for the quality fitting that was done by me :-P

I cant recommend this enough seriously, by the time you have sold your old items on ebay is pratically pays for its self.

Sounds like a glowing review, with no(?) downsides - a few questions if I may.

When you had all your homework done and the bits together how much time would it have taken if it was all done in one go?

If you don't mind my asking (feel free to ignore) how much would you say it cost in total?

Any pics to see what went where?

Do your insurers see this as a performance mod?

Hi,

There is no downsides to this for the money it cost.

I started collecting bits and its cost me the following.

2 X Ford Coilpacks (scrapyard) £10
1 X Ford Zetec Air Temp Sensor (scrapyard) £2
1 X Crank sensor £10

I bought my megasquirt with triggerwheel, LC1 Wideband sensor and JE Triggerwheel for £400 off a fellow Chimaera owner brand new. Probably be similar money now though looking at the website.

I then got an old ECU box Lucas 14CUX and chopped the pins inside to give me a connection to solder too for the new megasquirt loom. This means I could always put the old ecu box back but I hope it never sees the car again. I made a coil pack bracket which sits where the old ecu is. I used my existing plugleads but choppped the end off the coilpack ones (zetec) and crimped them to mine. I mounted my LC1 in the exhaust just after the Y-piece and thats really about it. I only made one error in wiring and that was solved easily on here. Im certainly only a DIY tinkerer and I speant a week doing it a few hours a day.

I have just completed my ebay and the old stuff sold for:

Lucas ECU £150
Airflow £60
Dizzy £20

Ive still got 2x lambdas to sell and my stepper. But its a very reasonable tradeoff for what your getting. Ive had it mapped as well so ive got a very good map if anyone needed it.

I will get some pictures of the install if anyone wants to see.

Cheers
Neal

The LC1 is such good value for money and seems really accurate. Theres also hundreds and hundreds of people using them so they all cant be wrong wink

I will charge the camera up tonight and take some photos tomorrow, this could be interesting never uploaded pics before biglaugh
