hi

about to become an R300 owner...exciting eh !

the one I am buying has a rusty front gril...despite being a year old...the grill is about £30. it looks like it bends into position by bending in the middle the mesh and then popping it into the top holes after locating the lugs into the bottom holes....

or am i reading this wrong, and actually its a nose off job !

thanks

Nose off but that's only 4 (at most) twists of a screwdriver.

Nose off by releasing 4 dzus fasteners and then the grille has two metal clips that just pull off to allow removal. Pop the two pegs in the bottom holes slide in the top ones, push the clips back on and pop the nosecone back on.

5 minute job; unless you drop the black metal clips on your lawn when it needs a good mowing..........
Thank God for magnets idea

super. sounds like i can manage that ! i guess you just get your grill from the caterham website ? there seems to be only one for the R300 (the fine mesh one) - not sure why its rusted on the car i am buying...is only £25 for a new one, so hardly worth repainting or repairing the existing one.

The popular alternative is the "7" grille (also on website) for appearance, but it doesn't keep the stones off your rad.

You can fit both in so 7 grille for the look and mesh grille for the flies/stones.

As the SVA mesh grille is supposed to go in front of the 7 grille anyway, are the holes already big enough to take both sets of mounting pins, or do you need to open them out a bit?

It varies (as with all things Caterham). Mine needed extending, a friend's didn't

Motor factors sell mesh sheets for the max power brigade at around £12. You'll get enough mesh for 2 grills. Couple of coats of spray paint and a few zippies and you're sorted.

i went to do a pre inspection tonight, before i collect it in the morning, and i noticed it has both the seven grill and the fine mesh back to back so you are right. i might be able to clean it up actually...anyone know if the original mesh was just unfinished steel ? it seems only the bottom part has rusted...its not serious so it might clean up, but for £30 a might as well just have a new one.
