456 negative points

can someone explain to me why the 456 seem to be so 'reasonably' priced compared to other Ferrari's.... are they simply a bad car or just not a fashionable model?
p.s. no offense intended to any owners in here i just am not an expert on these cars, personally like them and was curious on the pricing....

£130,000 for a bonnet, £75,000 for an engine rebuild and don't even mention the problems with the Flux Capacitor.
Wouldn't worry too much about the price of the Flux Capacitor there are plenty of used ones knocking about at most scrappies!!
IMO the 456 currently looks like a performance bargain, but as has been said they have always suffered by being a bit unloved.

^^^ Spotted this one in the classifieds last week and thought it looked lovely... and almost too cheap! Are they really that hard to shift?
After years of lusting after V8 Ferraris I'm beginning to think that the way forward is to go straight into a V12 for the same or less money..
In 5 years time, an 8 year old Scaglietti with a few miles on it for £50k would do the job nicely!

Don't you know?
£130,000 for a bonnet, £75,000 for an engine rebuild and don't even mention the problems with the Flux Capacitor. Search on here for info on them.
One problem that they didn't ever really solve was the windows dropping, even on the "Modificato".
Amazing how these figures get inflated every time someone posts them. The bonnet is, I believe, carbon fibre and very expensive to replace...but then when was the last time you needed to replace the bonnet on a car? And when was the last time you needed to replace the bonnet out of your own pocket rather than an insurers?£130,000 for a bonnet, £75,000 for an engine rebuild and don't even mention the problems with the Flux Capacitor. £75k for an engine rebuild? I very much doubt it but perhaps 456 owners can chime in as to whether they've ever had an engine rebuild (I'm not aware of any offhand) and, if so what sort of cost was involved.
One of the reasons 456s are comparative bargains is because
of nonsense like this.
The truth is, as stated by others, that all Ferrari 2+2s depreciate at a greater rate than the 2 seaters. 456s are expensive to maintain (although not as absurdly so as these sorts of figures might have you believe) and there were some issues (like window seals) on the early cars.

One ohter thing to add - and this one's true too - they are slow sellers, so do not be afraid to haggle.
What's with the damaged car?...how much does he want for it? I extrapolate £32k based on his comment about it being £1500 below trade....if he's looking for that kind of money for it, I'd like to meet his dealer, 'cos clearly he sells top quality gear.

I think it was originally up for £29,990 when this thread was fist posted.
I don't like the idea of being fist posted!I've wondered for some time what the catch is with these cars. I would quite like 4 seats for carrying the little 'un around from time to time (without resorting to the shopping car). I guess it comes down to insurance, servicing and the fact that 4 seater Fs are not that popular.
Yep, bonnet costs about £8k but you would expect it to be covered by insurance if you slide a sandy covered canoe down it (don't laugh, it happened, although not on the Ferrari - our car hire chap in Spain looked a bit bemused
).
The engine rebuild will be the same as most other F V12s I guess, but the killer for me was simply the running costs. Two V12 services a year will make a dent in the "Sunday fun car" slush fund, and things like the rear suspension cost £5k a pop, so check very carefully for leaks when buying.
That said, bloody gorgeous cars and I would love one

You read this kind of stuff posted so often as if it's fact that I failed to spot the intent in your post.

Yeah I know - that's why I added a few noughts and threw in a Flux Capacitor comment - surely everyone knows that they only fitted the Flux to the 575 Superamerica...Jonathan
