We are having massive amount of visitors today, with huge peaks that are having a knock on to the synching of the database servers. I am working on a major piece of code to take some load off the servers which will have a bigger impact than fiddling with the servers to get them upto date all the time, as they are coming back by themselves after the peaks.

Can't you just invest in some better/more powerful servers to deal with the unsurprising amount of demand??
