Hello All,

One of the girls in our office has a very tidy T reg Polo. She'd become aware of a strange rattling/buzzing noise which her local garage diagnosed as a loose undertray. They removed it stating that it was only present to prevent grass fires from under a hot engine.

Now, she only does short trips & very rarely uses motorways. I thought these trays were to aid aerodynamics.

What is the general consensus? Should it be replaced securely or left off the vehicle?

I doubt she would notice any difference in fuel consumption, which is the only indicator of aerodynamic effect, she would really need to worry about.

If mpg drops put it back on.

If she also finds it will no longer pull 160mph in fifth that is another good reason.

A new tray will be expensive from VW, a friend of mine damaged his golf in a similar way and they wanted lots of money to repair it. In the end we fixed it up with epoxy and tie wraps.
