£7000 on a diesel beamer

Want something decent on fuel and tax around £7k mark. Would be nice if it's newish [5years?]

Right now it's just me and the missus and that way it will remain for circa 3 or 4 years I hope! So size isn't an issue.

You guys probably going to slate me for suggesting this but how about the 118d with a high mileage.or ditto 320d es?

So what you guys think the fastest diesel beamer is for around the 7k mark?

I don't think you'll find a 1 series for that money? 320D (E46) should be doable though. Maybe check out the 320D compacts too. Nippy movers and great mpg.

Be careful with 320d's they have a very nasty habit of swallowing their manifold inlet flaps and lunching engines.

Make sure you factor your annual mileage into the purchase equation. No point in paying a premium for a more economical diesel if you don't do enough miles to warrant the extra expense.

So many people I talk to insist on having a diesel because X Y or Z bloke said they were the best.

Yes they are brilliant but when the equivalent petrol car cost £2k less, you need to think about how much difference the extra MPG makes to your own annual use.

Plus the fact that a 7k BMW diesel is likely to be of an age & mileage where it needs expensive repairs.
