XJR6 without supercharger

Had an interesting experience tonight. Heard a slight clunk like running over something but everything OK so press on. I'm on the M25 in a 70mph convoy. Eventually traffic clears and it's time to, ah, escape. No grunt whatsoever but able to maintain speed. No warning lights or any other indication but eventually notice that the 'mill' noise is not there. Got home OK but on inspection one idler wheel disintegrated and belt missing. I'm amayzed that it ran at all. Thinking back to a couple of weekends ago I thought that there was a slight dry-bearing-ish noise under the bonnet but too busy to investigate.

Moral: Don't ignore dry-bearing-ish noises under the bonnet.
