£17K!! Thats nearly £10k less than I paid for my 07 plate just 6 months ago! Buy the VXR it's a bargain! I'm not looking forward to the depreciation on mine

Looks like it is damaged at the rear, the fog light is missing and appears to be some damage to the right of it.
Knowing the price of parts it would probably cost about £10,000,000 to fix

Hi, everyone just looking at getting a monaro. I,m changing from a X5. Wanting to know some pointers on buying and what sort of mpg you are getting for everyday use. Not sure on what model to get but needs to be no more than £18k.
Thanks for the help

Hi Matt
For that sort of money you could get yourself a late VZ CV8 or a early VZ VXR. Both of these have a small boot and the bonnet nostrils & twin exhaust. The sweetest model is probably the 5.7 VXR as it had the big boot and all the styling of the later, VZ VXR. To be honest, you'll be happy with any of them but the best value is probably the VZ CV8 at the moment. Try Greens as they normally have a few knocking about and get one with a few mods if you can.
Fuel consumption varies but in my experience, 18mpg is average. Some will claim nearly 30mpg but 6.0l petrols just don't do that.

I went to London and back in mine yesterday (from Bristol) on half a tank. That included a fair bit of farting around in traffic too. Don't know what that is in MPG but its much better than I used to get from the Audi S4.mattmitchell said:
Hi thanks for all the replys, but as I,m a newbie what does vz stand for.
It's the last model they made with a few styling and mechanical differences over the earlier models. They are also more powerful, although power can be increased on the earlier models to compensate. The VZ also has a small boot due to relocation of the fuel tank.
Nostrils:
Fuel Filler is next to boot lid/behind quarter light and there are exhausts either side:

so can you get a vxr model with a big boot
Yes, the 2004 VXR.
However they are VERY rare and have the 5.7 and not the 6.0 Engine.
Then you have My Monaro GTS, which would definitely give a 6.0 VXR a run for the money, PLUS a big boot, and it is only a 5.7 L (but a calloway one).
If you aren't in a mad hurry, you might find an 04 VXR for good money. I picked up my 54 plate VXR a month ago on Autotrader with 19,000 miles on the clock, and in great condition for £14,000 (advertised at £15k ono).
I had been waiting for a while to get one with the big boot, and this snapped this one up the day after the ad was posted.

The 6.0VXR is definitively the pick of the bunch because it has significantly shorter gearing due to a different version of the gearbox. This with the larger engine makes it a much better sprinter and easier to enjoy on our congested roads. Both CV8 models are definitely over geared, the later model was supposed to be improved but good old Vauxhall messed up. Apologies to those who have heard this from me before....
