Happened literally 2 minutes ago for around 10 seconds. Very weird sensation. First time I've ever experienced it.

Anyone know what the hell caused it? Last I heard we weren't near the boundary of any tectonic plates?

Or even what it measured on the Richter scale.

Was really weird because it was so quite and you could actually hear everything shaking!

Also felt in Northampton and here in Market Harborough.

We had one a few years ago although I felt this one more.

Scared the pants off me......

I slept right through the one in 2002.... and thought Mrs Meeja was winding me up the following morning, and only believed her when we watched BBC news the following morning!

It woke me up, but the weird thing is I woke up before it happened, sort of sensed it, or felt a pre-tremor, so I was awake for the whole thing proper. Lasted for several seconds, made some large panels in the house vibrate noisily, like the shower in our en-suite and the CH boiler cover. I was worried glass in the windows or conservatory roof might crack. Will have to have a good check around in the morning.

Can you imagine what a good 'un must be like, in some parts of the world?

yikes

Yeah I was thinking that. Wanted it to last a bit longer just for the sake of banter.

My Dad wasn't convinced it was an earthquake at first, oh no! hehe

Not normally awake at that time but was last night due to a busy evening working very late. I was just unwinding with a glass of wine when I thought I felt/sensed something, I muted the tv and then the main shock arrived. I have never witnessed/felt an eathquake before but my partner and I both looked at each other and said 'what was that?' no bang of an explosion or crash or anything so thought the only things it could be were either an earthquake or as our house is built near old mines, an old mineshaft or suchlike collapsing.

The whole house shook and vibrated - a very strange sensation a bit like when the developers were carrying out some drilling/pile driving over the road only they carried on for hours.

It woke my baby up, just 30 mins after we got him sleep. (after trying for the previous 4 hours). Was very loud. It reminded me of when i was in London and the bunsfield place went up. I thought then that a plane had crashed near us as we were on the Heathrow flight path and this felt very similar. Was like an old lancaster or vulcan was flying past.

I thought it was my next door neighbour and his girlfriend at it at first hehe then thought it was robbers ransacking the upstairs, then got worried when I could hear everything shaking and the glasses and crockery in the cupboard moving about yikes The one in 2002 was very similar.

You didn't bring a souvenir Rift back with you from Iceland did you, and then set it in motion by accident? wink

Made me jump as well. I thought my dogs had escaped from downstairs and barged the bedroom door open and were about to rush onto the bed. One dog was still in his bed, unphased whilst the other was quite shook up. Poor little fellah.

Bloody hell. Scared the living daylights out of me. Was kind of dreaming that a train was driving past at speed and then woke, realised we don't live near a track and bricked it. Had palpitations for about 30 minutes.

How do people live near the San Andreas Fault or whatever its called?
