Hi mods & experts !
Funny thing occurred :
I had an ad on top right of page (in "Drag Racing", I think)
for a "Phone Radar" gimmick that was written in german.
Is this some kind of new clever software
that tracks down the country/language of user per IP or mail address,
or are we taking over your country ?
Cheers,
Benni

if answer to second question is YES, then start driving on ze correct side of ze road, willya?

Benni, there is a good chance some intelligent software recognised your ip range, and delivered the advert in your home language.
I had the issue when I was working - the load balance went between London and Frankfurt.

Nothing new and clever about it, we developed this kind of thing 7 years ago.

Nothing clever about it at all.

I keep getting adverts in Dutch (Work ip based in Holland) and have not got the foggiest idea what they are on about. It's a big and flawed assumption to assume everyone first language is the same as their host.

I think the ad boys upstairs are trialling location targeted advertising to see what effect it has... though love to hear the feedback to this.

Assuming we're all seeing the same ad service being used, then it's Google's AdSense ads appearing, and they certainly make huge assumptions about what to serve based on some degree of knowledge about the owner of the ip block you seem to be using.

It kind of works well, It's giving me a setanta advert for Liverpool FC tv and I am actually in Liverpool. Doesnt take into account that I hate Liverpool FC with a passion though...

But it is giving me Man City, and I'm in Coventry and a Villa/B'City supporter

Serves you right for liking wendyball, Ali.

Its actually quite amusing sometimes, as the GNER/Stagecoach train WiFi service pops out onto the internet in Sweden biggrin
