How can he be fired from a company of which he is the major shareholder?

ISTR that Ron Dennis and Mansour Ojjeh have sold off a lot of their shareholdings to Mercedes. I think they both have about 14% each.

Also, IIRC, Ron moved to Switzerland shortly after, but like Lewis, it wasn't for tax reasons. Must have been all the media attention he was getting...

Together Dennis and Ojjeh hold more shares than any other individual share holder and have a 'must stick together' clause that means, ultimately, those two still own the company.

I'd be very surprised if this is true.

They each have 15%, M B have 40, and Bahrain royals' investment vehicle the other 30.

Ron's moved to Switzerland? Are you sure about that?

There's your answer.

You don't build a dream factory within a few of miles of your lifetime home and then a couple years later slope off to Switz because you can't cope with the media anymore.

Cheers.

And he has supposed to have split up from his wife. Bad year already, even if the rumours of a "lowe profile" role at Mclaren are n ot true.

As others have said, they no longer own a majority stake in the company. I don't believe that they have any other sway over the compnay in terms of voting rights or veto either, but am not 100% sure about that. What I do know is that Ojjeh has pledged to keep his shareholding until Dennis is ready to sell up, at which point he will exit too.

Dennis does have property in Switzerland though...

Its just a tactic to try and put pressure on him as Mclaren are top of the timesheets for the last 2 days and poor old Alonso is about 15th.

I never heard about him and his wife untill today either, must say i thought she was supporting him well last season?

I would find it extremely hard to beleive that dennis would just leave mclaren and walk away from something that he dreamt about and worked all his life for.

Mclaren and Williams back to the front of F1 for 2008 yes please!!!

Mercedes deny Ron Dennis fired from McLaren

Mercedes has told PistonHeads that rumours McLaren CEO Ron Dennis has been fired are ‘rubbish’.

Reports from the Spanish press have suggested that the McLaren team principal has forcibly relinquished his role ahead of the 2008 season.

It has been suggested that Dennis will be replaced by deputy Martin Whitmarsh.

The newspaper Marca apparently said that McLaren will be releasing a press release shortly confirming the change of situation.

However when PH rang Mercedes this morning a spokesman told us: ‘It’s rubbish, but I think the official line is the status quo remains the same.’

McLaren echoed this, with a spokeswoman adding: ‘We have no comment on speculation as we would then be doing it all the time, but the status quo remains the status quo.’

Latest news.

Spanish press are reporting that Fernando Alonso actually won the 2007 World Championships because he won more races last year than any other Spanish driver in Formula One. They say that in between discovering and developing Penicillin, building an orphanage and providing famine relief to Africa he out raced and out performed McLaren's Pedro De La Rosa (also from Spain) in every race last year. Alonso has also been nominated by the Spanish board of Science and Commerce for 4 of this years Nobel Peace Prizes, Spanish reports say that he will win the Spanish vote, which is all that matters.

Nail, head, hit, on

Ron Dennis is part human, part McLaren cyborg, man and company are inextricably linked. All successful teams and businesses need a leader with vision. Ron is McLarens, and im pretty sure Merc realise that. 40% or whatever chunk they own is worth the sqare root of F-all without him in the same way that the Frank williams, Jean Todts, Flavs etc etc at other teams. If you lead by committee you get Honda F1... case rests ;-)

After last season's cock-up's, inc. the spying farrago and huge fine, I think getting Hamilton the championship was Ron's only way of saving his neck and we all know what happened in the last two races...

In the end it's all about money, Ferrari-gate, plus a lost championship that should have been in the bag makes the story all too believable, we'll see soon enough...

I must admit I find it hard to imagine or comprehend *anybody* having any say or influence at Macca that doesnt start and stop at Ron Dennis. Yes Mansour has been around as Ron as his business partner and in that time he has seen him deliver Championship after Championship and manage the best drivers and sporting rivalries the sport has seen. The best part of 30yrs of success, massive financial gains for them all it is supposed to have just been evaporated in 1 season? I dont think so. Mercedes too pissed off to allow Ron to continue and demaning he goes? Well Id like to see them try and remove Ron against his will because it would rip the company to shreds.

Dennis will go when he wants to go, not before, not later. EOF.

Apparently at the request of the Italian magistrates the police have been to visit Ron to search his home, as well as the homes of other executives and the factory as well. They just can't leave it alone can they!
