The best advice I can give is read Ben Lovejoys site (the top one) then ... re-read it then .... re-read it again.

If you can avoid weekends and public holidays, then do so.

The local lads in thier hot hatches will come past you like you are standing still, regardless how fast your bike is or how good a rider you are, so watch your mirrors.

Do not time yourself and do not hang onto the coat tails of anyone else unless you know and trust them (and they know the track) and they know that your are following them.

Other than that, relax, ride safe and enjoy.

Exactly!

Had an excellent time there last year, but the first few laps are well scary!

Made the mistake of slotting in behind a quick guy in a hot BMW, only to have him lock up and run off in front of me.
Took me a moment to realise what he was doing, so lucky I didn't follow him onto the grass.
Lesson learned; only ever ride at your speed, not someone elses.

Excellent advice.. the only thing I can add is to expect the unexpected. The ring is officially a "one-way toll road" and by that.. you will get the tourist bus and Miss Daisy out there...

Have a great time.

i've not done the ring yet but i've gotta echo the issue with following someone else.
I've done the 'Target Fixation' thing before on a bike track day and nearly come off.

A guy infront of me panicked on a wet bend and grabbed a handful of brake going into the bend causing him to flip the bike and it cartwheel into the rough.. I was so transfixed on what his bike was doing i totally missed the entrance to the bend and only just kept it on the track..

But have a great time mate and make sure you report back on how it went.

cheers,

Nick

we had much the same...me and two mates...mark on his blade the same as mine and pat on his R6 at silverstone...this guy about 50yards ahead of us managed to bin it coming out of the left kink before hanger straight (f-ck knows how he managed it)...anyway i looked for the gap between him and the bike as they where both across the track ,no problem my mate mark does the same BUT pat stared straight at the poor fella on the deck and had to swerve like hell at the last minute when he realised he was about to run across him!!!!! me and mark looked back to see pat swerving all over the place!!! lol hehe the silly f-cker, we were wetting ourselves for the rest of the lap

ALWAYS look where you want to go, the bike will follow
