Hi All. Haven't had the Griff very long, and decided to check the oil. Bit low so want to top it up.

I don't have a manual for it (if anyone has a relevant manual they wish to part with let me know) so the question is, what is the recommended (from both TVR and knowledgable owners) / best oil to use ?

Best oil is clean oil

Offords put is Shell Helix Ultra - reasoning that since most owners use Optimax it makes buying a top up easier smile

Opie oils are very good value.
They should be at he Growl again and wil do discounts for collection. Best to get your 12 month supply then.
Personally use the Silkolene - uses very little and has anti shear (something to do with reducing the breakdown of the oil at high temps), too technical for me but it was recommended by Guy at Opie.

If you don't know what oil is in it - then any oil will do !

You can mix all oils

Any oil is better than no oil.

Hear Hear. And isn't it an issue with the Rover engines that they don't like running with low oil levels. I've always been a bit paranoid about making sure the oil levels in both the TVR and the Landie are bang on the levels.

So what exactly DOES happen when you mix mineral with synthetic, or is it all a con?

I've asked OPIE this and he says :

All oils are a mixture..

What ever oil you buy is a mixture.

Base oil, plus the addatives - the expensive oils have expensive addatives.
