Spent a while in my third LR dealer the other day - dealt with by yet another disinterested little scrote who masticated throughout the entire experience and appeared completely nochalant to any entreaty. Still, I guess I wasn't his ideal customer - I knew what I wanted, I required sensible discourse and advice, and was happy to pay cash on the spot and not add to his coffers by some god awful finance deal. More to the point he was clearly wrong-footed by my capability to string together a coherent sentence without resorting to "like", "yer know", or "ummm" every third word.

I would so prefer a return to the Good Ole Days when we all knew salesmen were out to take the shirt off your back, and careful prodding and poking would give the desirable result - this recent trend towards dithering ineptitude is really beginning to wind me up. HELLO??!! I am offering you cash. I am offering you an EASY sale. Yes, SALE. That's what you do. That's why your badge says "SALES executive" or whatever preposterously inflated title you have given yourself this week. More to the point, my ready cash pays your sodding salary. SO EARN IT. Hmm, this is turning into a rant isn't it..... just sick to death of dodgy LR dealers around this neck of the woods - having to go further and further afield to get a salesman who is prepared to talk turkey and willing to think outside of the box (not to mention even offering a cup of sodding coffee!). Guess I'll try yet another next time I can be bothered to waste an hour of my life trying to spend 30,000 of our Great British Pounds.

After explaining I wanted to consider an auto V8 or auto diesel Disco3, HSE, with all the same trimmings as the Rangie he took me off to some 1980s Armitage Shanks Green Lego Brick On Wheels (TM) with.... a manual gearbox.... right, whatever.

Anyway, about the only useful thing he came out with (assuming it's true, and hence this enquiry) is that only 56-plate and onwards cars got bluetooth as standard (HSE spec) - this struck me as a little odd as my 54-plate Rangie has the first iteration of the now-ubiquitous LR touchscreen, and has Bluetooth on that...

So, is he right, and if so, how can I tell (or do I just shop for a 56-plate or bust) or is he talking out of his proverbial lazy behind?

Couldn't agree more with that. I'm looking for the same as you, and some of the crap spouted by salesmen at LR dealerships has been laughable. Do they all go to the same censored training school that requires them to say,
1:"We don't run a big mark-up on these cars".( So why is your car "A" that you've just phoned me about, 5 grand more than car "B" then)
2:"I'm in the business to sell cars".( Well at least try not to treat me like a censored idiot then)
3:"Its a premium brand with the best residuals out there" ( Well it was when the 3 year RV figure was 60%, not now its 48%)
4:"So you want an HSE,or SE in grey 'cos you want leather,sat-nav and auto? Ok I've got a lovely manual blue XS with cloth, but its cheap would that interest you?" ( No)
5:"We won't go that low" (3 weeks later 2 cars I put offers on are now at where I bid!)
6:" We can't get them, there in such short supply" ( Which obviously expains why LR are cutting back production for the UK market by 40%this year.)
7:" You've done your homework then?" ( Well if that means I'm not as gullible as you censored well hope, then yes)
Of course this only applies to the ones that have outgoing phone lines, most don't appear to.rolleyes

Oh and in answer to your question..............can't help I'm afraid!

I had a pretty torid time trying to buy my Rangy from a dealer near high Wycombe. Repeated phone calls to them & no effort on their part whasoever to engage in structuring a deal.

Eventually I walked away & 4 weeks later the car I was trying to negotiate on came down in price to where I initially wanted it to be. Took another half dozen calls to their sales executive to persuade him that he actually wanted to sell a vehicle before we finally agreed on a deal that was way better for me than I was originally pushing for. Unfortunately, the car is back in with them to replace the gearbox, air suspension, rear wash / wipe etc, etc but that is a different story!!

Message to some LR dealers - 2nd hand 4x4's are not hugely desireable in this ecoclaptrap environment. Try engaging keen clients in a negotiation and you may well end up better off out of a deal than if you dig your heels in & watch the residuals slip week on week & the client eventually buys from you for much less than he was prepared to in the first instance. Selling's not that difficult if you listen to the punter rolleyes

Guys just so we can share some gen.

What sort of prices have you been getting for new HSE's. I seem to find that a car fully specced for me RRP's at just over 45,000 pounds. Without much push I am straight away down to 40,000-41,000.

Anyone paying significantly less than that?

I believe Bluetooth is for 2008.5MY i.e those D3's with the soft ruffle leather seats.
