Following the accident avoidance thread I thought it’d be good to confess our sins and have a “accident non avoidance” thread. Chilli should like this one smile

I’ll start the ball rolling with my long list of my summarised whoopsies;

1. Honda CG 125 – racing an RG125 through town (before speeding was a sin) and when I grabbed grabbed a fist-full of front brake, the lever snapped off. I ended up on the roof of the Audi estate at the lights with the bike buried (still upright) in his boot.

2. Honda CD200 Benly – With a mate on the bike both in our work suits (in the days before you could hurt yourself falling off) I was riding out of Tesco’s car park with carrier bags full of shopping on each handlebar and in my mate’s hands. Being a lad it was compulsory to get the exhausts down (and sparking) in the car park. Alas I tucked it in too hard and when the exhausts hit the deck, the back wheel lifted and we pirouetted across the car park with shopping covering a 30 yard radius. Most embarrassing.

3. YZ465 – This bike was the Devil. It was a recalcitrant bh that would only start with a 3 mile push at 3:27pm on a Wednesday if the weather was nice. On this one particular occasion all of the above criteria where in place and it reluctantly fired into live. It then started misfiring, so instead of holding it at a decent low engine speed until it warmed up, I whacked open the throttle. It popped and banged across the dirt track until I reached a strip of tarmac. At that very moment it cleared it throat, the rear tyre gripped and it flipped up and spat me off the back sending me bouncing across the tarmac. I apparently flipped over 6 times before coming to a very winded rest. The bike lay on side idling contently for the first and last time of its life.

4. GT550 – Covered on another thread, but basically approached a junction with stuck open throttle and went from a burnout to a wheelie to an on-the-tarmac pirouette.

5. GSX550 (my courier bike) – When riding into the city one very wet day with my equally nutty courier mate I thought it would look most impressive to keep lighting up the rear tyre whilst filtering through traffic, until one time it found unexpected grip. This sent me rocketing into the railing at a pedestrian crossing. It was the laughter that made me look up. The central island I’d crashed into was full with a crowd of schoolgirls who saw the entire episode unwind.

6. GSX550 – Following traffic in the wet, there a slight smell of diesel so I thought I’d take it easy. I braked as the car in front did and woke up 2-3 minutes later in the road with a crowd of people around saying “I think he’s dead”. Pulled myself together and called my mate to come and pick the mashed bike up and it took him half an hour to get any sense out me.

7. GSX550 – Riding past New Scotland Yard following another courier on a GT550. He braked and pulled to the left so I went to overtake. He then did a u-turn. The tangled bikes slid towards the lorry in the oncoming traffic with smoke coming off his front tyres. Luckily he stopped in time.

8. GSX550 – Filtering through traffic in the City on the inside I came up to a left turn and a car just turned without indicating into the junction dragging me with him.

9. GSX550 – Riding around Marble Arch the car on the inside of me just pushed into the side of me to shift me. Knocked me off, ran his front wheels over the bike trapping me and it and dragging us for 10-20 yards until came free, then he buggered off. Less than a minute later a couple of cop bikes appeared from nowhere. They where apparently chasing the driver of the just-stolen car that hit me. They came back half an hour later saying he’d got away.

10. GSX550 – Filtering through two-way traffic and I get to a side road on the right the car just in front swings hard right to the side road sending me over his boot.

11. TDM850 – Pull up at a pedestrian crossing to let an old boy cross. He steps onto the crossing then looks behind me and steps back. I look in my mirror and just as I process the MT-01 in my mirror, he hits me and sends me down the road.

12. TDM850 – Filtering down the bottom of the M11 when white van man throws it into the inside lane taking me with him. I managed to stay on, but made a nice mess of his van and removed his mirror.

13. Most bikes – The standard disc lock whoopsy.

There are a few more that I can’t post, but a lesson was learnt in each. Mainly pay more attention and don’t ride like a tit on the road.

So, let’s hear your tales of woe smile

Not my tale of woe but a friends.

We decided we'd race back from southend to hangar lane. In rush hour.

This lead to us using footpaths, one way systems, all of the wrong things to to.

Bearing in mind he was on a CBR100RR and i was on a CBR600, when i saw him going for a pavement - road movement i thought it was odd, so he sales off the end of the curb and down a 3ft drop imitating a motocross bike, but it wasnt so the suspension grounded and bounced him off sideways hehe

So he picks it up, no long lasting damage, just buggered crash bungs so he insisted we continued the race, he's a nutter.

1st bike rvf 400- On a 50mph a road riding along in traffic, just keeping pace really but behind a transit disel van and getting sick of the fumes so decide to overtake. Overtake the van and a couple of cars in front of it then pull back between the cars infront of a clio as the road has some traffic lights ahead, go through the lights in the left turn filter lane but have to give way at a sign just after the traffic lights for vehicles on the road that I am about to join (thimk about gassing it infront of the car but thimk better of it).
Brake, slow down to a crawl and wait for cars to pass...

...Picking myself up off the road
clio driver behind me didn't brake.

Two lane entrance/exit roundabout, morning rush hour. I'm in lane 1 going straight over, clear to go so i do. Young girl in a fiesta pulls out from lane 1 of the entrance to my left as i go over, right in front of me. Fistfull of brakes, bit of rear. She sees me and stops - in my path!! As the bike comes to a stop, diesel patch sends the front out to the left. Bike goes down for a slow slide. I land on my feet, bet have a wrenched shoulder from the bars flipping. Girl gets out of car, "i just didn't see you" and looks terrified - and hot as!!

Off comes my lid to reveal a big grin.

Plenty of witnesses, just a bent rear brake lever, so i tell her if it snaps when i bend it back, she can just get me a new one, no harm done.

She calls up later that day, and asks if i'm ok. Tell her my shoulders a bit sore, and she tells me it's nothing a beer won't fix. Meets me for a drink, gets me a bit drunk, takes me home and makes me feel her boobs and stuff.

Yay!!
