Why bother? TVR are only recommending it because of some sponsorship deal. Use Mobil 1.

A lot of people recommend avoiding Mobil 1 as it is too thin.

In an effort to answer the original post - don't know, but if Carlube have a website I'm sure it will list stockists.

Seems like Carlube 0w-40 is like hen's teeth.

I spoke to Tetrosyl (the manufacturer, they informed me that their agents may be able to recommend an alternative!!!) who gave me the name of some agents, none of whom actually stock this grade (although we can order you a bulk pack sir) as nobody buys it.


Spoke to nearest TVR dealer parts guy who was pretty rude saying that TVR recommend Mobil 1 not Carlube - I had a few choice words to say to him about etiquette and accuracy of information. Spoke to the dealer that I got the car from who were far more knowledgeable and offered to fill a container from their drum (unfortunately a 150 mile round trip) if I brought one in!!!

Anyway, I need it to keep in the car for next week's road-trip. Probably get some same grade Mobil1 instead... I've not long had a service (done with 0w-40) so don't fancy draining the oil to change grade!

My pleasure. BTW - my 'too thin' comment was from a Rover V8 perspective, rather than Speed 6, about which I know nothing.

You're quite right about the V8. When I had a griff I was told by a few experts that Mobil 1 is too thin and I was better off using a good multigrade. The speed 6 is a higher reving multi-valve so probably does better with a full synthetic. I could be wrong though.

Mobil 1 0W40 is indeed widely deemed to be too thin, it's Mobil 1 Motorsport 15W50 you want!

Yeah but:

1. I don't like being told what to use

I use Mazola. It's cheap, the bottles are ugly and nobody told me to use it!

I'm using Carlube Triple R (which is fully synthetic) in my Chimaera 500 now. It's fine and miles per litre is well up from using Mobil 1. It's also £10 cheaper, from CAR branches.
