rfactor drifting....
Discussion
Hi all,
Messing aroun with rfactor using my G25 it would appear that getting a good power slide is really really hard. I'm attempting it in a caterham r500. Is this a really bad car to attempt it in ? any suggestions on how to achieve one ? so far I've tried
1) scandanivian flick (end up all over the place)
2) sudden lift off, back end comes out but no chance of control with the throttle
3) power oversteer (carniage)
and pointers greatly appreciated
cheers

You need a front engined big torque car with low grip tyres and progressive slide/oversteer.
I recommend the Chevy Corvettes, AMM, Lo's 60's sportscars - basically road cars.
Then go into a long constant corner, come off the throttle, apply oversteer and control it on the throttle. Hard to describe but easy to do when you know how. Speed is also important, not too much.
And if you really want to Drift in anything you can by changing the setups. There's a great vid somewhere of an Aussie V8 being thrown around Suzuka.

Try the Lexus ISF mod, same as what Tiff was drifting on 5th Gear.
Great sound, rear wheel drive, lots of power and road tyres.

my pc cant play games at the moment so not sure about the quality of these mods.
Keep an eye on this track, if you like drifting or any racing you will want to try this when its released.

I found earlier today that the Panoz mod by ISI works well. Was driving a standard convertable round the Top gear track and got power oversteer round chicago and the hammerhead, easy to balance with the throttle too. Careful though, the brakes lock up easily and understeer comes in spades if you are too fast.

Unfortunately the rFactor mods bunged his analysis on some issues with the tyre mod in a sub-sub forum to hide it away.
Basically, you can drift, but the tyres are doing something naughty, which means it's harder than it should be.
Forgotten exactly, but basically, movements in the friction circle mix are not adjusting optimal slip angle/ratio peaks further along, so the tyres stay too 'sharp'
Simple fixes are, drive 'sharp' cars (race cars seem ok still, but road cars with softer limits show problems)
Or, make the tyre soft to start with, but then you loose the sharpness in sportier cars.
