I would consider letting mine go for £42500,er make that £47950, 540bhp American Speed engine,6 speed, full screen, spoiler and factory roof,a/c,accusump, ap's,and only 5000 miles etc.

Mind you I am enjoying it too much at the moment, roll on summer.

2 cars up for sale in 2 weeks, is this an end of line clearance sale or re-stock the coffers ?

They seem to be using the same correction factor with the pricing as AS use with the dyno

The latest ad does say, and I quote "Selling on behalf of overseas owner."

Hi Guys,

As a potential pre owned Can-Am owner who has been following the Ultima story for years, I have to say that the pre owned factoy Can-Am at £56,995 appeals to me as it is the spec i would ideally like. Compared to Tuxmans Can-Am for example (which i have looked at in detail at a few shows and it is a lovely car and beautifully built and no doubt worth every penny of his asking price) it has in addition other parts i desire:

Full factory spec weather gear- £5k if fitted by factory (45 hours labour to fit I am told)
Air con- around £3k fitted
Intrax dampers- £1k
Goodyear tyres (better than Pirelli according to this forum) - £1k
Aeroscreen option- £1k fitted
Rear wing £2k
Factory built-approx £20k premium when new (this in my view still has some value now and appeals to me being factory standard being a new owner with no build experience and lacking in mechanical knowledge)
Engine- yes I do feel more comfortable with it being a factory approved and checked over unit, although this isn't essential.
Factory inspection prior to purchase etc.

Also I get to buy it from UItima themselves which gives me more back up and protection than a private sale (same logic applies to any used car sale), and is nice to deal with the main dealer.

So already this Can-Am arguably to me at least has an approx value of £15k-£20k more and is the spec I would like, and it is ready to use now without any hassles of spending some months ordering/upgrading/changing parts to my desired spec, so its not as straightforward a comparison as it may seem.

I'm not wanting to start or participate in a huge debate though! If anybody has an equivalent spec Can-Am for sale (factory built ideally) feel free to pm me. Cheers, John.

Hi John,

Can't argue with your logic there! Makes sense to me.

Still think you would get a better deal with Tuxmans though smile

yep tuxmans is so sorted and has efi.

Im sorry a 20k premiun for a factory built car does not make any sense to me, they are very very simple to work on and a home builder will be able to spend many more hours than the factory.

Just my opinion.

John

Is the 20k premium you mention the factory charge to build the car - if this is the case then you're comparing a built car to a box of bits which is unfair as it costs any builder time/money to contruct one of these babies!

I think it's sometimes hard to understand why someone would spend that much extra if you're mechanically minded (even slightly), but there are many many people who aren't and they have to pay the premium above.

sorry i disagree

read and learn, ask friends, anything. What if it breaks down!! do you have to keep taking it to the factory??

get one, get some tools and work it out. Plenty of people will be keen to help!!

Guys,

Thanks for the comments.

I wasn't attributing the extra value to the factory build alone. Just the specification as I listed/calculated is worth an extra approx £13k compared to the Tuxman Can-Am for example and more importantly to me is the exact spec I am looking for.
If I was also adding the £20k plus VAT original factory build cost into the equation we would be looking at around £35k difference in value!

As it is I'm maybe attributing approx £5k value to the fact it is factory built, factory engine, factory inspected and fully factory back up due to buying from the main dealer (which would be a typical dealers mark up I guess on a car of this value compared to a private sale). Makes sense to me anyway. Cheers

Hi guys , firstly thanks to Gaz,Steve and Kyle for your nice words about the Can-am to get praise from people who have built there own cars is very flattering !!! i am very proud of her and while i sometimes wonder wether the exspense and effort of building her was worth it being part of pistonheads and meeting you guys goes along way to justifying it !!!!!

Jon,thanks too for taking a interest in my Can-am if you have seen her at the shows you will know i am very keen talk about her !!!
i would just like to cover the points you made, firstly the factory weather gear is very good and the only reason i went down the route i did was because i did not want to run the car with any side screens ,hence the reason why i had a cover made that does not need them .
Air con is a interesting point as i looked at retro fitting it but as of yet i'm still unshore as to whether it will work .
Dampers is a easy upgrade if you felt it needed it .
tyres ,if i was going to upgrade tyres i would use the Kumo,s as Luckyp has tested these very well and speaks very highly of them !!!!!

Aero screen looked at it but too hardcore for me !!!
Would love a wing and whoever buys the car if they supply me with one i will fit it f.o.c

i fully understand why you would feel more relaxed at buying a engine with Factory support ,i used a uk builder because he came highly recommended to me and offered me great backup if i got any problems ,not to say i would not get the same support from the factory engine supplier of corse, i was just happier using a uk supplyer .

i would have no issues letting the car go back to the factory for a inspection although i don,t feel they would be qualifyed to form a opinium on the engine or EFI system .

There are some upgrades that are unique to my car , Full fully mappable EFI , cooling fan upgrade, complete pre-tested braided hose system for both fuel and breather system ,and a host of small things that make living with the car a bit more bearable !!!

Cost is always a big issue and if i was looking to buy a ultima i too would swing towards a factory car but ultimatly it would depend on the guy selling it and the condition of the car . Simon

Oooh, a prospect attributing value to a Factory Engine? How very timely to our recent conversation on here.

[brown paper envelope] Thanks John [/brown paper envelope]

So that's two out of two current prospects proving beyound reasonable doubt that the market (not us old cynics) add value to A/S factory recommended engines.......

Is there a smiley for blowing on your finger nails and polishing them on yer shirt, hey Stig?? biggrin

(appologies to John for jumping on his post).

So does the 15k premium for being factory built mean they provide any written warranty at all?

From seeing many cars in person I can say that some builders spend considerably longer getting the build exactly right which is something the factory can't do... I had a friend who bought a factory built car and I did a load of work on it for him so I have seen both types of car close up (ie factory versus private builds).

Not dissing the factory at all but a car built by them isn't worth a premium IMO.

if you have no mechanical knowledge it could be argued that if backed up by a warrenty it could allow value, but under any other circumstances as 90% of the owners/builders will agree it will not.
