Bloody Porsche! No 02 sensors in stock. Back order from Germany - could be days.

This is the second time my car has been recovered on a low loader for this fault and I'm a bit cheesed.

Still, I'm thrashing the crap out of their Jag for a few more days...thinking of getting one!

Guys...are your 996s reliable? I've had two BoxS now and both have needed to be recovered to AFN for fixing under warranty. This current one TWICE!

Oh..any TVR owners out there sniggering - your cars are made of plastic so nyah nyah OK. Eeeeeh. I'm glad the Mrs reliable british made car is working...last time this happened it gave up the ghost too....

Only had it for 14mths Don,but apart from Optimax I had to put 1/2 litre of mobil 1 in my 996 while running it in.I think you are just unlucky with these sensors...Surely the 996 has similar ones fitted?
Cheer yourself up and put a deposit down on a TT X50 cab next time you visit the dealer.

;( that is a PITA..
Still it always seems to be the way, get a new car, fix it day after, fine for life then...

I havent had my porsches long, but i havent had any serious issues with them at all really.

Only bugbear i have atm is noisey aircon, but I am getting the dealer to sort it next week anyway.

But then again, my TVR was super for the 19 mths i had that too...

Still, my old MG Turbo used to break down all the time, maybe I have served my time

You lot are a terminally bad influence. I am currently scheming about how on earth to persuade the Mrs that we should get a Turbo...hmmmnn...Daz you are a bad boy.

It doesn't help that if I go used and LHD its actually quite affordable. No no no...must resist...must not put down the deposit...

It may amaze some people Rich but with the prices of Porsches as they are I have a significant income to earn to keep bills at bay and the rocketship in the garage. The 1 1/2 days off at the end of last week together with an IT transplant at the headquarters of DAZREN Inc yesterday and today has lead to a higher level of activity in the office than normal (ie less PH time). A hangover from last nights birthday lager curryfest this morning didn't help matters either. Anyway I'm back now with a clear desk.

I think it was Kevin (456mgt) who once said I should be selling 996tt X50 on behalf of Porsche GB. I have a funny feeling if most prospective purchasers got the demo run I normally dish out Porsche would have an even larger order book. There would also be more people paying the extra for the X50, which is good news for the legions of PHers who'll be buying them as supercar bargains in a couple of years time.

As for me being a bad boy I'm afraid it's been said more than a few times before. I am a little worried now though, having considered things I may have to miss BTaP as Mrs Don will soon want to kill me.

The only problems I've had with my car is an intermittent wind noise from the passenger rearside window and the front brake rotor debarcle where you are not supposed to brake from 190 to 80 in less than 400 metres 16 times on the trot. Can't imagine why.

Bad luck Don. I've had exactly the same problem occur twice on my MY03 Boxster S. Bit of a coincidence eh?

I also had a Jag loan car last time. Made a change to drive an auto. That's the difference with Porsche, they collected my car and delivered the loan car within a couple of hours, got the problem sorted, then delivered it back to me. When my Cerbera went wrong it was a real hassle getting the car to the garage and arranging a loan car, although that was a used vehicle so I'm not really comparing like with like.

The only other problem I've had is the BOSE auto-pilot (the thing that adjusts the volume of the stereo according to the ambient noise level) hasn't worked for months. AFN have had 3 attempts at sorting it, including replacing the stereo and amplifier, but with no success.

Thanks John and Daz.

I still love the bloody thing and will be looking forward very greatly to having it back. BTW John - I reckon the MOST system is to blame for your stereo woes - mine regularly does bizarre things but is always fine once I "reboot".

Oh Daz: On no account miss BTaP. Mrs Don, whilst fearsome , can be a pussycat once properly introduced...she'll come round to my way of thinking....one day...

Oh BTW Daz - I've flogged a few Boxster S's in my time...

Took my old neighbour out in my last one and did a roundabout..errr...sideways. He went a bit white and said - "Do the salesmen do that.."

Then bought one...

Had a 996 for 3 years . Not ever had a single problem with it.(had a 993 and 3.2 carerra previous 7 years..very few problems with these either).

I keep the warranty updated though (£900 a year) for peace of mind.

What I would like is a monthly all-in package like the Boxster has. Any boxster owners have this????

When doing 195mph through Germany two months after collection (and correctly following the running in procedure I may add) there was no problem with the lower casing of the passenger mirror housing (the black plastic bit). The first run at Brunters saw the problem of it working loose at speeds over 120 mph. As it held on properly on my first German assault, I can only guess it received a good whack from a stone or something prior to the first Brunters exhibition. Hardly in the league of breaking down as Don has endured or the pisstakes some of our friends over on the other boards have been on the receiving end of.

Now now, not getting at you, just saying, spending that sort of money, entitles you to more than a
TVR'esque quality check at the OPC, prior to them signing it over to you

Craigw was looking at putting another day together so email him via his profile and let him know you are interested in running.

JohnP68.

MOST is an acronym for the fibre-optic LAN thingy they use now instead of copper for the loom. I'm not convinced its all that great, frankly. Its on MY03 on cars.

To "reboot" all I do is make sure that the stereo is switched off BEFORE cutting the ignition and then switch the car off overnight. This usually fixes any stereo glitching I've had.

IF however I leave the stereo ON and kill the ignition the software seems to go barmy and will do things like:

Randomly switch on the stereo.
Stereo "works" but no sound.
Randomly switch off the stereo...

Very strange but I am living with it as it doesn't happen very often...
