we had our yacht lifted out of the water today.

went down to the marina to have a look and there is a fist-sized hole in the side of the hull... some complete f$%^£r has evidently sailing right into the side of it and then just sailed away...

can't believe someone would do something like that... you expect it with cars etc, but the yachting world is slightly different...

it'll cost a packet to fix properly.

not happy... !

Ugh, yeah, you expect it in your local Sainsburys, but as you say, not in the Yachting world, what a pain in the arse.

i own a 1/3 share in a 27ft racing yacht which we bought for £6k (should be nearer £50k, but being yacht brokers, we have an eye for a deal!)... this means that my financial interest is all of £2k.

...now am i entitled to be f&^$%d off with some twonk causing hundreds of pounds worth of damage to my pride and joy?

pistonheads is the last place i would come to brag about anything...!

Now, what's the phrase I'm looking for... ummm... ahhh... that's it!!

IT'LL POLISH OUT !!

Bit of gaffer tape and some T-cut and job's a gooddun' idea

All joking aside a hole in the hull is not funny and as you say, not cheap (although it sounds like you got a deal on this one!)

Always stuck by the old adage that "the best boat is someone else's boat", primarily the father-in-laws.

Mighty tempted as in theory, I have river/sea access from the garden with twelve moorings on the River Dart! In practice the moorings have been revoked and the river access is being contested by a neighbour furious

Sure you'll get it.

Bad luck mate. Kevlar hull?
Does your marina not have cctv on the pontoons? Of course its not unknown for boatyards to damage boats when the're moving them either.

cheers... it's not kevlar but it is a balsa cored hull... the outer skin has been punctured and the core has been compressed or ripped out... the inner skin is still intact, but the current concern is precisely when the damage was caused and how much moisture may have worked its way into the core.

another issue is that once the repair has been effected, the gelcoat match will never be perfect so the repair will always stand out... short of respraying the entire hull of course...

...that'll knacker our resale value then!

oh well... no use crying over spilt milk i guess.

...as for cctv... will have a check...

That is bl00dy crap.
My brother got his new boat in the water yesterday, let his friend take the controls as he prepared lines and the dozy twonk put a hole the size of a fist in the side.

Maiden voyage...

thanks Kurt... but I wouldn't want you to risk getting a scratch on your nice shiny 'custom' orange paintwork!

we'll just take on the chin, get it repaired and get on with sailing it... having lost pretty much all of last season with a broken rig, we need to get some enjoyment out of it.

Bad news about the boat! At least you have another little toy sat there to sail!
There will be no cctv of your boat!
The camera route down that part of the yard normally does the view from the spay off area to Brians house.
plus i don't think those once are movement activated like the ones on the pontoons!
If you need any help with the boat give us a shout.
