imported scoobu
Discussion
Hi all, i am new to PH buti have heard alot of good things about you guys, i was wondering if you could enlighten me with a few questions that i have been wondering about since getting my scooby almost a year ago.
IT is a P reg import and is pretty standard, i am gonna be getting a full exhaust for it soon hopefully as it still has the crappy two pea shooters side by side jobbie.
I have a few questions that i am hoping you guys with the know how will be able to help with.
1 what oil should i put in it
2 what is the bhp its pushing out as standard i have heard so many different things including because its a import its more than the uk spec.
3 does anyone know what the boost is set to and what i can safely turn it up too before i risk blowing things up.
A bit of help would be greatly appreciated because i dont have a clue about anything mechanicle, all i know is if i push my foot down it goes quicker, dont know how and dont care as long as it does it lol.
Thanks for your time.

There was no UK spec WRX in 1997. They didn't start until 2001. (being pedantic) You're right about the power of the UK sped 2000 turbo though - it is 215 bhp.
A 1997 WRX should be 276 bhp, but I'd realistically expect around 260 bhp from it as standard.
Oil should be 10W40 fully synth according to the book, but 10W50 or 10W60 is quite acceptable. Don't go for a 5W anything as these are too thin.
Boost is (if my memory is good) 0.8 bar. With the right mods (read quite a lot of them
), 1.4 bar is OK. With only a decat and new fuel pump you might be safe with 1 to 1.1 bar - It depends on the car really, some tolerate more than others. Unfortunately there's no easy way to remap a standard 1997 Scoob ECU to fix the fuelling and timing.

thanks guys this is all really really helpfull but i have another question for you. I was told mine is a WRX its definatly an import i know that much for a fact. My friend has just bought a WRX Sti and i was wondering what the differance is. My p plate says it was first registered in 96 which i gather is the better kind from what i have read here so far and so is my friends a 96 plate, however his scoob has had a full enigne replacement and has a red top on it, any ideas with that one,
I do know that they have done so many differant types and models and it all confuses me a bit, novice i know but hey.
we are fairly sure my friends one is an import because as i understant they didnt do a WRX Sti over here and thats purly a jap thing.
Thanks for the help so far and i will put pics up soon if you lot think i am worthy.

My import Legacy gt/b is meant to be 276hp in manual form.
Yet a Forester import s t/b is meant to be 240hp.
JDM cars are better spec in most ways, not build to last so long, limited to 112mph & have very light gearing for better acceleration.
