I've heard that later this year, the bike test is about to get much harder. So i was wondering, could i do the test now, and would doing this have any real benefits over taking the test in say, 2 or 3 years time?

If it's in your mind to do it then now is the time, I wouldn't fancy doing the new test knowing that I could of done the easier, cheaper older one

The new test will require you to go to one of the new test super centres which may mean travelling and being on unfamiliar roads for part of your test, it will also become a lot harder as you know to pass and far more expensive to do so, both in the test fee and training. Training should also take longer to incorperate the new elements of the test.

As long as you are 17+ you can do one of the test versions as is now, you would need to complete cbt and theory first though before going onto test

october is when the new test comes in, so as the weather starts to get better expect it to become harder to get a test date as the rush to pass really kicks in

jeez, paul i'm guessing you have had this on your mind for somewhile whilst chatting to biker friends. call up an instructor now and get it booked before the summer rush, why waste 3 years of your life not riding!?

Best doing it right away for all sort of reasons, apart from the obvious that the new test is longer, more expensive!I'm an instructor and i've heard some instructors struggled with some of the CBT/test stuff when it was in it's infancy!laugh

I was chatting to Dave the chief instructor at Metropolis and he reckons the new test will be easier from October, as while longer there is less of an on-road element and the off-road stuff is very simple and controlled (ie. emergency stop) compared to doing it in real-life conditions.

Not gonna stop me getting mine beforehand though smile

Just get it done.. From experience everything to do with motoring gets either harder or more expensive or both.. and you will of missed a whole summer of potential bike riding..

The test at the moment, IMO, isnt too tough so what have you got to lose?
