after approx 2 years the ohlins shocks on my tuscan need rebuilding as they
are losing oil aparently the chrome rod has got pitted by stones or simular
so i am now looking at a fairly hefty repair bill approx £650 is this common ?
has anyone ever fitted any sort of gaiter to stop this happening
as i dont want to have to budget £300 a year for servicing shocks

Dont some shocks need servicing every other year anyway? I've had Nitrons on for 18months now and not sure if they should be regassed soon? Not had to keep adjusting settings to maintain consistency yet...

Ive seen some shock socks on pistonheads somewhere cant remember where bit like a stocking that goes over the shocks and springs to give some protection from the elements .

Depends on use, but Nitrons should be re-built every couple of years or so . .

Ohlins probably the same, again depending largely on use.

A number of use these to protect them . . .

damper bags

I had my Nitrons rebuilt last year it really makes a difference as the progressive wear and tear affects performance and you only tend to notice a significant drop in performance, well worth it.

Kerkey make damper covers, but they're very simple and it would be easy enough to make your own if you got some vinyl cloth and had somebody to sew it for you.

Done about 30k in 3 years on the Nitrons with no apparent drop in performance. Rebuild was (about 12 months back) £50+VAT per corner so good value given you get a new warranty.
