Boyd Coddington dies aged 63

I've just watched an episode of 'American Hotrod' that announced his death in the final credits. Apparently he fell in January and subsequent surgery resulted in a bad body reaction. He died Feb 28th.

I must say that I did not care much for the character and his behaviour as portrayed by Boyd in his show but am willing to believe that he was probably a nice guy in real life ( after all, every successful TV show has a script right? ) and it can not be disputed that his contributions within the custom car world will be sorely missed and for that alone, it is a sad day indeed

I never knew the guy and never watched the programme so I can not comment on him.

I am a keen follower of the hot rod scene and he pushed the boundaries in that field for years. He will be sorely missed by millions!!! The man is an icon in the the US.

The resulting cars were fantastic but I could not have coped with his work ethics.

Maybe the show was edited wrongly but it struck me that none of them could organise a piss up in a brewery.
How many times were they under pressure from totally self imposed and unrealistic deal lines?

Someone suddenly remembers that there is a major show on the opposite side of the country in 2 weeks and so they ought to build a car for it!

How the hell they ever built such stunning cars remains a mystery.

Is a shame that everyone "remembers" him as the person portrayed on the show... despite the fact that we havent met him personally.
