Xbox 360 Arcade Downloads

I very rarely bother go onto my Xbox dashboard, butlast night I did and found that i had a lot of demos and things in there which I definitely did not download.

Is this something that should happen or has my 360 developed a life of it's own?

I think there is an automatic download option on it somewhere that can be turned off.
