Geneva Reveal - XKR-S
Discussion
Great looking beast! Best we've had from Jag in a long time. Pity there isnt more power as the 0-60 time is not that quick for an 80k motor, wonder if the 50-100 is any different. Personally the extended top end does nothing for me unless the lower down times are shortened too.
BTW - is this a move towards a return to Le Mans for Jag and to show the boys at Aston how to take the hand brake off?

0->60 times still the Jag estimates they've been using all along, from back before Ford sold AM. Maybe they are leaving the numbers alone so that when the 5L version comes out they can claim a bigger perf increase.
Some of the mags who've actually bothered to test the car show much faster times.

Just been reading Evo and they have a small bit on the XKR-S. The engine is untouched it's only the limiter that has changed and at 174mph it's still limited
what will the XKR do without a limiter is what I'd love to know. Anyway according to Evo this is a limited production run of 200 cars only available in Europe and will cost just over 79k.
John.

I have to say I am pretty disappointed with Jaguar for this half hearted attempt to sell the XKR. I thought this was going to be another model in the range, but instead it is just cosmetic with no changes to the performance as such. No tweaked supercharger pushing out and extra BHP, no stripped out weight with Recaro bucket seats and less goodies etc. a la Jag GT3. Instead it's just an excuse to push the price up further and not really giving anything back in return. I'm sure driving along my local twisties, I won't feel much difference to mine. The interior is the same, just black. I'm sure lack of money means they can't do much, in which case they shouldn't bring out a new badge if it isn't any different to my XKR out on the driveway. I'll wait for the 5.0ltr thank you...............
PS I'll bet the 5.0ltr will be £80k+. So instead of £1k depreciation a month, it'll be £1500. Getting too expensive for me........

i agree, 80k+ is far to expensive. unless jag release a lightweight GT3 type model.. CC brakes, stripped out interior, light weight alloys, carbon bonnet/roof/boot lid etc then charge 80k+

That's my point NST, the XK-RS should be just that, another model in the line up, not yet another 'limited edition, which is exactly the same as a normal XKR, bar some software tweaks and painted black
Edited to say....I thought they were going to do the Porsche thing:
Carrera = XK - As is.
CarreraS = XK-R - As is.
997 RS = XK-RS - Gone a lot further with a stripped out, hard edged coupe, with bucket seats and Carbon fibre panels like the Jag GT3 PalmerSport.
997 turbo = XK-RR - HUGE power!
Maybe one day....

Moaners. Given them a chance. It seems to me that reading between the lines that although the XKR is capable of 180+ in theory, perhaps it may not be, safely, i.e. brakes etc. The 5 litre is obviously not ready. So they did what they could with the time and resources they had.
When the 5 litre is released it must be right first time, you'll moan if it isn't.
Who knows, maybe they are watching Aston and want to make the Jag faster and better than any existing car they have.
Imagine another Jaguar V12.

I'm not moaning, but critiquing. Jag have always in the past 'evolved' the XK range, bringing out these 'limited run' cars. XK100, XK400, XK Carbon Fibre, XKR-S etc. There is nothing 'limited' about them, they are all normal XK's, just with different levels of spec etc. By all intents and purposes, the XK-RS is just an XKR with what they used to call the 'handling pack', that was available as an option on the previous shape XKR Coupe. I'm sure it is very good, I would never say otherwise, but what they should do is make it a separate model in the line up and go further to differentiate it as a proper 'RS' car, not just stick a badge on the back of a tweaked XKR.

Years back when the original XKR was launched I lunched at the Whitley development centre and they told me that they had easily got over 500bhp out of the engine but at that level it lunched the Mercedes based gearboxes which is why the engine was restricted. I was at the launch of the new XK in South Africa in 2006 and found the new XK to be as good if not better than the old XKR. Maybe it's me but I can't really see the reason for buying the XKR nowadays with so many plod and cameras everywhere. I certainly today wouldn't buy a Jaguar new when they lose so much money in the first year either - 6 month old convertibles at less than £60,000 are good value compared to a list price of £76,000. Go to an 05 car and pay less than £40,000 with only 15,000 miles too. The discussions with Tata continue but there are rumours that Ford might in the end hold on to Jaguar and Land Rover. Perhaps just rumours though.
