Corsa 1.0 Oil Pump.

Not my car but....
does anyone know how the oil pump is driven on this car (04 plate)? Is it off the timing chain? What can cause it to fail?

the oil pump is driven from a hub that fits over the end of the crankshaft.timing case removal is required along with sump.
I have just changed one on a 05 1.0 with 12000 miles,completely shattered cracking the timing case,wouldnt mind but i was on road test at the time aarrghh!
I think they might be a weak point - unless anyone knows different?
