Trail /Enduro / Traffic Buster
Discussion
Hi All
Just a quick shout as i am fed up with the constant traffic and spending a fortune on fuel every week just to sit in traffi c jams and it 30mph occasionally.
I am thinking of getting a 125cc enduro style bike for the daily trek to work (7 miles) and hopefully some green laning etc on weekends.
i was just wondering what the general thoughts are on the 125cc market and what bike would suit?
there seams to be hundreds of far east imports now from small name operations (to me any way i just think the main kawasaki, honda, suzuki, ktm etc)
are these bikes any good or are there any good new companies?
Pics and decscriptions if any ph'ers got one
All help and advice is greatly needed
Cheers in advance
Ben

I would have thought that your big problem with a 125 is that if you have any non 30mph roads that you ride to work on then it will get very tiresome. I would expect it to be very gutless. Kinda the problem that people have had with Supermotos in the past.
As to the theory you are applying, I think you are on the right lines. I used to commute on a sportsbike and then changed it for a KTM 950 Adventure. Although it is a big tank of a bike the visibility that you get from being way up high is a revelation!

Hi Mate
the roads are all 30mph twisty streets etc so would be ideal for a bike i think, do 125 not go much quicker than 30?
easily, even the most basic 125s will crack 50 or 60, derestricted race-reps will do the tonthe roads are all 30mph twisty streets etc so would be ideal for a bike i think, do 125 not go much quicker than 30?
DT is a great bike but i would suggest being a bit handy with the spanners.
Being a 2-stroke you may need to do a top-end rebuild of the cylinder etc at some point.
Easy work but still have to consider it.
oh and make sure you keep the 2-stroke tank with plenty of oil in it. Use it all up and its sieze time!

another vote for the dtr 125 .pretty nippy for round town and b roads .they should clear 70mph Being a 2-stroke you may need to do a top-end rebuild of the cylinder etc at some point.

If you are going to green lane it with any degree of sucess you need to consider that you will need to be able to pop the front up, over obsticles and ruts and to change from one rut to another on most green lanes.
If you are stuck to 125 then the DTR is good but, as pointed out 2 strokes can be a bit more delicate, especially if "tuned".
XTs are great bikes but a 125 4 stroke is never going to have much torque off road and will probably be a bit heavier that a 2 stroke.
The 225 Serow in a good bike, a mate had one, but the layout meant that when the pace picked up a bit the front end had a tendancy to push/wipe out.
Depending on what you want you could try to find a TT 125.
They are rare but TTs are more off road biased than XTs.

Ok what about this!

It's the Scorpa TY125 Long Ride. It's a Trials bike that's been designed to chase Trials rather than compete although some have been seen in the SSDT. Yamaha supply the engines to Scorpa so it has the same unit as in the DT125X and TT-R 125.

it's a four stroke so it's not a dt engine .
