Just pootling around the countryside this weekend and wondered how the "new" S compares with the old K-Series engined S2. I haven't driven an S myself but I guess it is essentially aimed as a direct replacement. OK the power is up and performance is similar on paper but I'm interested in people's opinions of how they actually are out on the road. Same car or different beast?

I would take a standard S2 (I take it a 120bhp k series) against an Elise S. Having driven both, the S2 felt lighter and more ... nimble.

If it were to own, I would take the Elise S. FAR better built and far easier to mod for massive power.

Taking the point of view that the Elise S would feel like an Elise R/111R with less power, I'd take the K-series car. They feel lighter and much more alive, and while perhaps not built quite as well as the later ones, no Elise really suffers from appalling build quality.

I'd take the K-series car - lighter on its feet with no silly servo in the brakes (and does the S have by-wire throttle like the 111R? Urgh).

Yeah ok. Honda Baroclugh has a point. For a burger run or a track day I would have the K series car. For everyday ownership I would take the Elise S (then stick on a few mods...)
