I wonder if by chance anyone here knows the owner:
There is a disused airfield right at the top of the A3 at the M25 Junction. Tarmac strip and lots of hard standing. Its private property as far as I know. The land owner lives in one of the houses round the edge. Used to allow us on every ones in a while to hoon up and down. Would be a good location, and would not have to worry about lots of general public around.

Spend some time with the map cursor.
Very nice, plus 24 hour noise from the M25 albeit not quite TF level.

That'll be Wisley Airfield then. Your map link doesn't work, so try this one instead. The size and location are great, but I suspect the surface will need some work before its usable.
Wiseley Airfield (Disused) it looks as though there are houses near. http://www.surreyproperty.com/flight-autumn2006.ht...

Yes I have seen that 6690ft. It is a shame no one got their hands on it years ago. It does look as though it would have made a good strip. I often wonder if there are any disused airfields in Linconshire that would be suitable. Even for1/8 mile racing.
There are... and they do.Straightliners run meetings at East Kirkby regularly. They have also run at Manby but met with some criticism. There was also a meeting held at Blyton but I suspect that this also caused problems with the locals as I cannot remember more than one event being held there.

Your task now, should you choose to accept it, is to find out how many airfields are no longer in use, have no neighbours and a friendly farmer.
Good luck

Could save a lot of hassle and go to the ones at Podington, Long Marston or Melbourne, most of the work has already been done...Good luck

There seems to be noise issues just about everywhere!
Yes, you are correct. It's not only in the UK, but also in the USA. You only have to visit the US drag racing forums to find that out. Also, it's not new as drag strips have been forced to close down since the 1970's due to complaints from nearby residents. Remember Lions in Los Angeles in 1972 and Crossland Moor in Yorkshire in 1974? There are many other instances I could mention! What is needed is central and local Government help to give licence to open the best ones up for drag racing etc, so as to provide a place free of charge, or a small charge, for young drivers to race instead of on the roads! This can be done in a number of ways without costing the tax payer anything. But we all know it will not happen.
