E46 330ci-Feckin' engine fault light
Discussion
Bought a '00 330ci with 90k on the clock about a month ago. Took it for a good hoon a few days later only for the engine light to come on. An independent BMW specialist diagnosed the thermostat to be at fault and duly fixed it, replacing the coolant. I took it for another spirited drive last night, lo and behold the light comes back on; I'm guessing air flow sensor, could it be anything else?
if its the light in the shape of the engine, instead of the EML light, then mine is also on! Quick check of the manual points to exhaust emissions, but when it was on a year ago, it sailed through its MOT with no problems on emissions at all.
Since then, it appears to come on for long periods, then go off for a day or two, before coming back on. One long period when it went off, was, low and behold, when I filled up with French fuel... immediately went off, nice worry free trip to Le Mans and back, and only came back on when I put English fuel back in.... coincidence?
Dealer said as long as not losing power, and not backfiring, then all fine. Their computer also showed up no faults.... random!
