Probably going to buy an S2000 within the next few weeks, so I'm interested in which are the best mods to go for. Thinking along the line of exhaust, intake system and wheels. Don't want to sacrifice performance and handling for noise and bling though !!

Any ideas ??

I don't think there is that much tweeking you can do with bolt on mods. Honda got it pretty much spot on.

Mines standard apart from a BuddyClub exhaust - its made no noticeable difference to performance, but it sounds great. Bit loud though.

hoping to buy an S2k in the summer.. unless I buy a CBR600 first, and there's not much I'd change..

the car sounds pretty good as standard I think.. so I'd just go for a nice set of Volks CE27's, and an assortment of chassis braces to help with the steering feel.

The only thing that's really tempted me away so far is a black S2000 with induction and exhaust mods and some nice light wheels..
wink

They do sound good standard, but they are almost silent! Not right for a screaming sports car!

hehe... biggrin

touche!

that was a little while ago though.. and having been driving my mx5 (with exhaust & induction mods) more recently has made me realise the benefits of stock airboxes.. a nice big K&N etc sure sounds fantastic when you're going for it, but does my head in on a cold morning commute stuck in traffic making a racket every time you have to creep forward a few feet..

exhausts I could take or leave.. did you really find yours quiet (pre-BuddyClub)?
I thought they made just the right noise once on cam....

Bearing in mind my previous cars - e30 Beemer with a powerflow, MR2 Turbo with a hayward and scott, the silver slut FTO with the Apexi (awesome), scoob was stock, rover turbo with a misc backbox - I'm used to my motors having a bit of volume to them.

When on a charge the stock system IMO has a great note, but just lacks the volume. With the BC it sounds like a full on touring car. BBBBBAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRPPPPPPPPPPPP!

The BC is known to be a bit on the loud side though.

It sounds exactly like this (Although the vid is an Spoon N1)

All that said, I put the baffles into mine whenever I am doing a long motorway slog, which takes a lot of the boominess out.

Tweaks from standard?

Engine - none except 'cosmetic' stuff - induction and/or exhaust to make it sound a bit better. Power increases only really come from FI.

Looks - rims perhaps, but make sure they're the right offset and they're no heavier than the standard items (lighter would be better). Oh, and 17"s are as big as you want to go for handling. OE bodykit (spoiler/skirts/front-dam) adds a little bit more purpose to it too...

Handling - cross-braces are a must - I've got front upper and lower and rear lower, and the car feels more 'tied down' and more predictable. Plus damping seems slightly improved. Get the geometry checked and adjusted too - it's got fully-adjustable castor, camber and toe, and you can make a real difference with a good set-up. Some people have gone as far as Nitrons and seen noticeable improvement, but that gets £££ both for purchase/fitting and on insurance.

Other - audio is no better than adequate as standard - headrest speakers are a good next-step.

Thanks, this looks like a good starting point for any potential mods. Are there any tuners closer to the Midlands ??

For actual mapping and RR runs, you could do worse than Thor Motorsport in Kenilworth.

Sit and watch the four way stop junctions in town, it's very courtious driving!

ETA - You could come back with a taste for V8 torque, the S2000 might have to yield to a TVR!
(My TVR with Nitrons handles as well if not more predictably than the S2000)

If the Chim was modern (aircon, modern dash and interior bells & whistles), leak-free, rust-free, dependable and worry-free.. I'd be convinced! wink

If the Chim had a decent driving-position even without those things I'd take a serious look...

Are you sure it's a car that you're after? I don't know any that do that. Even a modern german convertible has two serious worries - depreciation and dealer labour charges! wink

maybe the '5 has spoilt me... but's it's most definately all of the above.

I'm pretty sure the S2k would be too...
