Hi chaps ...

I quite often use a dogcam to shoot trackday videos, etc. Picture quality is great, but decent sound is a bit of a challenge ... especially if you want to catch in car conversation (which can be quite entertaining!) biggrin

Any tips from seasoned dogcam users on how to improve sound without buying expensive directional sound equipment?

did it sound like this?
http://youtube.com/watch?v=kdyPT7KGgH4

thats what the dogcamsport one i had sounded like, stopped using it after a session and had bought a mic from maplins for a tenner a couple of days before for my Iriver x20 MP3 player and got this.

if you have something like an mp3 player that will record a line in i would suggest that.record it separately then dub it over during the video editing stage.

Not quite as bad as the first one, but the sound on the second piece of footage is miles better there ... wow! Was the sound recorded from inside the car?

Will give both methods a try ... ta smile

Nice sounding V by the way biggrin

This clip was recorded using a microphone supplied by http://www.actioncameras.co.uk/ that plugs in to the video recording equipment, so no need to do any post processing dubbing. The microphone was inside the cabin between the driver and passenger.

Thanks DIW35 ... that is probably about where I am now (maybe the sound is a little better than that). The biggest problem occurs when the car is travelling at high speed with the hammer down some. Engine noise then all but drowns out in-car speech (most of the stuff is done in an Evo 9).

One idea suggested has been to use a low gain microphone very close to the driver, but then the passenger won't be heard. So that leaves us with 2 low gain mikes maybe. just looking for other ideas to improve the current situation really smile

I bought a bullet cam with mic from action cameras and extended the camera lead so it is permanently mounted by the number plate, but the mic is hidden near the rear view mirror

Ah, didn't realise it was conversation you were hoping to record rather than engine. The example I posted was inside a rather noisy car (V12 right behind your head) but the Action Camera mikes do still pick up speech, as I've often had to ask the OH to refrain from making comments at times when I am specifically trying to record the engine.
