Whilst I must clap the owner just look at what it does to the price eekhttp://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am... Have to be honest & say if it wasn't for impending house purchase i'd be tempted scratchchin at least with full ferrari s/h any issues should have been dealt with & in my favourite colour too.

Silly money - I know you could buy a car with half that mileage for the same money privately. I'd say it was not worth more than £20k at best...and even then, think what it'd be worth in a couple of years' time with over 100k on the clock...not a lot!

Strikes me as somewhat expensive, all things considered. However I am personally not afraid of a car with a few miles as I feel that cars are for driving, not for shutting away in a garage for months on end.

In the days of my owning a Jaguar XJ-S V12 the only times I had problems was when the car was left in the garage for a few weeks. Driven every day I never had a problem!

The only reason I don't buy cars with high miles though, is that you can never shift them.

I'd imagine that 456 will be around for a good while, unless the dealer can reel the punters in by offerring it for 20k or something...

Wow, will be a very difficult car to sell. With 85k there will be very few people who will touch it at any price. Remember the 456, when it breaks, is VERY expensive to repair.

Indeed, unless you can fix it yourself. An ideal car for a DIY mechanic with a passion for Ferrari perhaps?

Tsk Tsk.. my 360 is on 75,000 miles now! Never had a problem - engine still pulls strongly. In fact Verdi reckons its far better than many low milage examples they see..
They need to be driven! Not shut away in a garage - that's when the problems start.

It astonishes me that so many people assume that because someone puts a car up for X that it is automatically only orth X-Y!

Come on guys this is (at face value) an incredible car for £26k!

I would be sorely tempted and if it broke down terminally, I'd just keep it as a sculpture!

Alterntaively, I'd take it through 100k miles and then who cares if you could only get £10k for it as it would be the best £16k of depreciation any of us could hope to suffer!!

It will surely never be worth much less than £10k if broken up for spares.

My ambition is to buy high mileage Ferrari one day and then put some serious miles on it!

Not such a massive bargain as you can get 456's with 30k miles on for only £5k more smile

Undoubtably true but ignoring the fact that some of the low mileage cars "might have been" clocked, if I was going to buy a car like this to actually use, I'd be looking for one that had been in regular use (in its recent history at least) and not one that had done 25k miles whilst under warranty and then only 5k since!

If you go out and buy a Ferrari of this type without a full and undoubted service history then yes, it might have been clocked...but that'd be a pretty stupid thing ot do wouldn't it?

As Al said, for £5k more you can buy a car with FSH - even FFSH probably, given the nature of the people who bought these cars.

If that trader gave more than £18k for the car I'd be surprised - that gives him plenty to play with. I have known traders overpay for cars when they stray into areas that they know little about though...this guy might be one of those....

However, can we all agree that they are bloody gorgeous cars, and a lot of car for the money even at £30k and if they weren't just so damn expensive to fix a lot of us would have one like a shot biggrin

I may even end up buying one at some time when or if I free up some garage space - I think they're gorgeous

such a quality V12 is just starting to loosen up at 85K - these are strong enough for 200K if properly maintained and no shortcuts. Well done to that owner for driving it !

Out of curiosity, what do you base this info on? do you know of any 456 engines that have topped 200k?. To be honest I would have one like a shot if I thought they would handle those mileage figures. They are stunning automotive art.

Are 456 cars any less reliable than a 550? From what I understand the 550 is fairly reliable though there seems to be a lot of panic about the 456.

Is it anything to do with some recent silly TV program that said you could buy a 456 for 20 grand (though the example they had was 30k so they were already unable to stick to their word from the second sentence...)but "a bonnet costs 12k and an exhaust 10k.

All of a sudden I have seen these figures banded about the forums.

Funny I've been driving for 20 years and never had to replace a bonnet...!

Aaaahh, but have you been driving a 456 with their rumoured self destructing engine and have pistons punching their way out of the engine bay through your highly polished bonnet? wink

Keep the 456 horror stories coming, prices are coming into my range now. Will be looking for one of these when we change the 3200.

Precisely. Insurance is for replacing body panels. I've no idea if £10,000 is the price of a genuine exhaust but I'll be my bottom dollar you could have one fabricated in stainless steel that would last 25 years and not restrict preformance for 15-18% of that sum.

Presumably most of you will have seen this many times before but this is part of the reason why I've always loved them..
