I am having big problems finding rings that will fit my Griff 500 (95). It is std size bore and I have tried Hastings rings for Rover/(TVR) 4.0/4.6, however when I gap them they are .030 ins which is too large (should be approx .015 ins). Have been trying to get an alternative for last 6 weeks, but no luck. I have now ordered rings .020 ins oversize (can't get .010 ins ) and I am hoping to file down to fit?? (last resort).
Has antybody had simial problems or can offer any advise - must get this engine rebuilt, but with the correct ring gap!
(The bore has been honed but is standard 94mm.)

Go for file fits. Have you looked on the Totalseal website?

Have you actually bought the 4.0/4.6 rings? They are not the correct rings and will not fit the piston, I would suggest that you dont use them!
The rings that are used as std from Tvr are from the 3.9 engine, although the very early (and I mean early) 500 engines used a modified LR 4.2 piston.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. CRE - yes I have sourced the 4.0/4.6 rings, but not yet paid until I find a better fit, are you sure the 3.9 rings are the ones?.
I have now posted a couple of emails to the "specialists" suggested by Johno. I am hoping some further information will clarify if they are R/Rover rings and if so which model, or whether they are TVR specials, in which case what spec.
I should probably have sourced from UK directly in the first place, but its a long way away when things go wrong - probably short sighted on my part. If anything unusual eventuates I will post as it has become a real pain holding up my rebuild since January.
