It's my first trackday, so have booked instruction for first thing in the morning. I wont be going too ballistic as my car is standard and my pride and joy. Is anyone going? I'll be there with nurburgring1.

Also, can anyone explain how to add it to the trackday Wiki? Worried about cocking up all the formatting and layout.

Hi, do you have a linky to the organisers web site? I thought they stopped track days at Bruntingthorpe? Did my first day there 2 years ago and was gutted when they stopped.

Is it open pit lane?

Cheers
Andy

Sorry for the double post,If I delete one they both get deleted!!!!!!!!!!

The organisers are www.bigthunder.co.uk

Would you say it's a good choice for a first track day?

That depends if you like stone chips on your paint work or chipped
glass, from the less than smooth surface frown especially if the car is "your pride and joy"

I did wonder about the quality of the track surface compared to a proper circuit. I've visited a number of disused airfields in the past (not for track days) and thought the surface looks on the rough/abrasive side. I was thinking more in terms of tyre wear than debris though. I can accept that stone chips are inevitable, it gets driven everyday on the road after all, but I would be a little uncomfortable if every lap was a constant peppering of shrapnel from the car in front. Would you say it's practical to minimise the problem by keeping a good distance to cars ahead?

I suppose, at the end of the day, I'll try not to worry about it. If proves a problem I'll put it down to experience and pick a dedicated track next time.

just hang back from other people after the chicane as the long straight back down the runway is
where the lose stuff is. The rest of the track is fine with a good run off area.
Also check out the catering on the day if they are using there own cafe take something
else to eat hurl
The track is big enough to have some safe fun on just make your own space
and all will be well.

great place for your first trackday
youll get the hang of the place quickly and then really start to enjoy yourself as its a pretty easy track layout
the highlight of the track ,for me, is the balls out left hander just past the pit area.its a good feeling dipping your nearside wheels into a small broken area of tarmac on the apex at 110mph.At the end of the day youll be really enjoying yourself
ill be there in a silver 996
best advice is dont follow too close ,broke my screen last year, but that wont stop me travelling 130 miles again, and the place is very wide so youve plenty of road to share enjoy

Well it was a busy old day with loads seriously quick seven-a-likes (MKs?). It was a bit stressful at first, trying to jump out of everyone's way. But I think I got the hang of it. I had a bit of tuition which was ok but I didn't get the most out of it because the track was really busy at the time, I was either behind others, or trying to let people past myself. Because the layout has many more hard rights than lefts the left front tyre took a bit of pasting.

There weren't many other hot-hatches there so I didn't have much to compare myself against, I seemed to be able to run at a similar speed to some of the less exotic Porsches.

I had one spin, when I had a moment of doubt as I turned into the second bend and became the victim of lift off oversteer for the first time. Sustained a small scuff from the cone on the apex.

Did anyone else go? I would love to see some pictures. All in all, I really enjoyed it want to do a day at a proper circuit next.

Hi Bluest2!

Ive sent you some pics from Saturday of your car and my 993 which you had a ride in! Fantastic day wasnt it? It was also my first time and I cant believe its took this long for me to get round to doing it. My tyres did get balls of rolled rubber all over them, which I think is called graining? However, it seems I only wore about 1mm so pretty good really.

I would recommend Bruntingthorpe to any novices as it is well run, safe and theres plenty of room to have the odd er...mistake!

Most drivers were courteous and well behaved with just a couple that needed to calm down a bit. Happily one got blacked flagged!

The 993 behaved flawlessly, I didnt realise the brakes were that good. It was difficult (but possible) to unstick the back end as it was more inclined to push on understeer. I think I need to play with tyre pressure more next time.

I wondered why the sudden rush of 'cars' that morning on the nearby routes.

Thought perhaps there was Vmax on or something

Hi guys

That was me in the TVR who got black flag for db noise level. Had to come in and stick silencers on. Over-all a fantastic day out.

Also my appologies to the black Porsche GT3 with orange alloys. At one stage I was no less than 2 metres up its ass and driver stuck hazards on and pulled to one side to let me pass. I got a bit carried away in the zone.

Sorry once again.

Some good vids, spotted myself in one being comprehensively out dragged the Mk Indy. I particularly like the bit in the MG ZS vid were you easily waft past the 997 GT3 on the straight.
