Would you buy a new Tamora..!

Hi,

I've just sold my Chim and am in the market for a Tam, I've worked out I can get a 52 plate with between 10K and 25K for about £18000 or a 54 plate with similar mileage for around the £23/24000 mark.

I have also seen a brand new unregister one which is up for £32000 which includes a pretty good on the road package, my question is is the new one worth the premium, will it depreciate like a stone or would the novality of having an 08 plate make it hold its value.

What do you all reckon?

If you mean the one at David Gerald, then that is a VERY old car! It's got the pre 2006 seats in it, meaning it was probably built in 2005 and has been stood around ever since. I think that's why it is so cheap. Good value, but be aware of the build date and where it may have been since.

Can't see the £32k one holding it's value any better than the others, really. I think I'd be looking at the '04 plate one(s).

There is no such thing as an 05, 06 seat - you were able to spec any. I know for a fact there were still some of these seats around in 06 so if it was a final build they put in it what they had around. However as KM says check build date.
05 engine over an 04 any day of the week!

Thanks for the replies, I'll check the build date as you suggest. Was the post 04 engine alot better, I was told that all post 03 engines were the strongest!

Can anyone let me no what the non standard options were for the Tam.

That Tamora is luvelly.

It is built and finished to a very high standard

It's a May 05 build, and nothing wrong with that.

Just go buy it!

IIRC the Tamora was £ 37,385( basic) back in 2005.

Yep I paid about that for a Tam in Sept 05, did have a few extras.

There are no 'NEW' TVRs in the sense of 'recently built'. There are unregistered TVRs and that is what David Gerald have.

All the currently available unregistered TVRs where built long before the factory closed.

I do realise that they were built before the factory closed, but it will be an 08 plate TVR which will be a pretty rare sight I guess.

The question remains...is it worth paying the extra for this car?

Personally speaking - only if you plan to keep it for a while. Yes you are getting a big discount off the 'New' price, however you will prob lose up to £10k in the first 12-18 months. If it were me I'd be trying to do a deal at £30k (including warranty) with a view to keeping it for a minimum of 2 years. That way the depreciation will level itself out.

One thing I did notice is that it doesn't state if it has aircon or not? The pictures aren't clear enough to see if it has the switch either). If it doesn't that might explain why it's been hanging around for so long, and why it's so cheap. A TVR without aircon in my opinion is a big no no because the heat soak from the engine is unbearable at times, especially in the summer! So check that before committing.

I'm well aware of heatsoak, thats the only reason I sold my Chim. The car does have aircon and a few other extras which might of been cost options. I'm trying to find that out.

If you look at currant prices 4 year old cars are going for between 20-25K, if I paid 30K new would it be worth 20-25K in 4 years time, why do think it would drop 10K in the first 12 -18 months?

What they are advertised for and what they actually sell for are two COMPLETELY different things Dom - take it from somebody who has experience of this. Then you have to take into consideration any dealer offer price to, which will make your nose bleed!

I guess people need to decide whether they are inpressed with newness. (and its fine if thats whats inportant to you.

I got a 51 plate Tam a year ago with 15K on the clock for 15 grand !

Its caused no trouble and I spent the money I saved on a new Audi A5.

In my experience of non air con TVRs both my Chims were a bit of a nightmare, my left shoe was often a little browner than my right. However both my Tuscan then my current T350 are nowhere near as bad. I have never wished I'd spent the extra on air con so I would not let lack of it prevent me buying a car if everything else rang my bell.

My Tam is fine without A/C, only once was it too hot in the cabin! And that was when I had the boot full on a sunny day so couldn'y take the roof off.

I know thats there has been alot of debates on wether the aircon is really needed. As it stands aircon is a must for me, though it is good to hear people who are managing without it with no real issues.

The Chim was a nightmare, there was a constant flow of hot air that in the end put me off driving it.

Anyone have a Tam without aircon that wishes they had it!?!?!

I think if you really like thwe Tamora and are going to keep it for at least a couple of years then it is a good buy. It will be the only 2008 registered Tamora ever and one of the last registered TVR's which will maintain some of its value in the long term.

However as soon as it hits the road it is no longer 'new' and will probably lose a few grand straight away so if you are planning on keeping it for a year or less it could bite you. The 2005 cars onwards did have all the better engine parts etc etc so that goes in its favour as well. Parts don't seem to be an issue now so I wouldn't be to worried about the loss of the factory warranty - assume DG are sorting it out with some sort of warranty package.

DG had an unregistered Sagaris (as well as the motorshow car) also for sale recently that went straight away and there was a queue of about 4 / 5 people for it should the sale fall through when I enquired. I just wish there was more of these 'new' TVR's around!!!
