Remapping/timing
Discussion
I mentioned to one of the guys at Power, that I fancy a remap & short induction on my rather "whispy" 4.5.
He mentioned, that after driving it, he thought it might benefit from having the timing adjusted.
Is this something that the tuners touch , or have I got to get that sorted first ?

I think this was discussed relatively recently, and the answer was that if it was clear that the timing was way out (i.e. noticeably so) this would be checked/sorted pre-mapping (by the tuner himself). If it wasn't, then timing wasn't something that the tuners would regularly check before mapping as a matter of course.

I remember the thread to which Neal is referring, and I said something along the lines of : if the cerb makes anything over 330hp on the pre-fettling run then I wouldn't go looking for anything which was amiss as 330hp plus is what we typically see from good standard cerbs. I'd just go ahead and do the induction/remapping and fully expect up to 400hp at the end of it.
On the subject of timing are they talking about the ignition timing or the cam timing? I'd be very surprised if a test driver could pick up anything wrong on the cam timing as it really has to be a long way out to have a big impact on hp, and you'd need about 30-40 hp down on hp to tell from the drivers seat. If they're talking about ignition timing then I can tell you it's not optimum wthout even driving it, on the basis that I've never seen a 4.5 cerbie with anything like good ignition timing, the red rose cars come close though and gains on red rose cars are small, but on std 4.5s the gains from optimising the map are significant.
So in short : if your car made 330hp plus you could assume it was basically sound and do any upgrade work, if it made less then you'd have to to deduce the areas that might be causing it, and sort that first before going on to do any upgrade work.

Russel - just get it mapped/ the induction sorted!! please, this is agonisingly painful... its the only way to make the 4.5 feel like a significant step on from a 4.2, trust me - we've proven the car in competition.
half a second/ 10mph on top of what its capable of standard within a quarter mile is a BIG DIFFERENCE... and yet, the figures are only half of the story. The car is now the smooothest revving of any car on our fleet, especially noticeable at low throttle openings, the car cruises far more comfortably at say 70, especially when you put your foot down in fifth...the car used to hunt around/ was hesistant at that point before, now it just surges forwards. Hell, even fuel economy is up slightly?!
DOOOOOO IT!

I have just picked up my 98 4.5 and it pulls well in 5th at 50MPH!
Very smooth and picks up without any hesitation!
It has a sports decat exhaust, pops and bang on over run, but this stops if I just feather the throttle.
So Question for you?? Does this sound like a good un?
I will try and contact the previous one-and-only owner by letter, as I got from dealer, to see what he had done to it.
But owners with experience is invaluable to new owners like me.

Heres a trick from a certain mr Oakley (ex owner of Mackempete's Cerb) try it only in germany
- At 70 mph in fifth floor it - it'll hesitate a little, but slowly build speed until about 90, where it actually feels like its pulling pretty well... keep your foot planted though - as you get to 130 - in about the time its taken you to read this far, it'll come on cam and actually accelerate quite substantially harder...
A mapped car does the same, but without any hesitancy and in alot less time, with an even greater kick in the back! These cars are adrenalin on four wheels - theres nothign that comes close...

seems this is powers answer to every rebuild they do....He mentioned, that after driving it, he thought it might benefit from having the timing adjusted.

So are you coming along to the I.o.M at the end of the month
hhhmmmmm.... I'd love to John, but I disappeared off to Vegas for a week in December for the Hatton fight, I've got four nights booked for Le mans and two nights for the Spa-ring trip, any more trips away on my own, and I reckon she'll have my cases packed (again
