Just to settle a question? I've got someone on another forum who thinks santa pod admission is a ripoff; I'm suggesting that in comparison with any other form of motorsport i.e. GP, BTC etc, the entry for most events is really quite reasonable and good value.

He reckons it wasn't long ago that entry to the thunderball was a £5 on the gate!! Can anyone remember it being this cheap and if so when? Its got to be a long time ago IMO

I can't ever remember it being that cheap but I'm just a young-un apparently tongue out I remember the programs being a fiver back in 1996 so can't imagine it's been any time in the last 15 years that it was that cheap to get in.

£25 on the gate for a day is cheap compared to anything else that even comes close in entertainment

has the "FIA" tag on some meetings bumped the prices SPR can charge?

Maybe - but still value for money...

If you don't like the prices just don't go - the place will still be rammed!

Just been checking through some old SPR programmes and the gate admission price for the finals day of the Summer Nationals WAS £5. However, the year was 1979!

not knowing exact attendance figures thats hard to say

now theres a fair....monster truck/drift pad and helicopter landing site theres obviously less parking, so "rammed" may just be a quart in a pint pot....

ive seen it busier

In the 1970s you could buy a season ticket for Santa Pod for £50. I am thinking of changing my moniker to 'incrediblyoldfart'.

I had this discussion with someone a while ago...

I'm pretty lousy at maths so bear with me, but this is what my calculator says...

Football...
90 Minutes
Ticket £35

3500p/90 = 39p a minute

39p * 60 = £23.40 per hour

Thunderball one day
Say 8 hours racing = 60 * 8 = 480 minutes
2500p/480 = 0.52p a minute

0.52p * 60 = £3.12 per hour

It's even cheaper on a per minute basis if you go for all four days, but my calculator has some strange smoke coming out of it.. :-)

Someone correct my maths if I'm wrong...

Am I right in thinking that the last few years, the thunderball was an FIA round - but this year its not?
Ive got a group of people who all want to go, but I going to hold to the month after, which is an FIA round.

I don't think it's ever been an FIA round from memory, certainly not in recent years possibley around '96/97 when the FIA tour started? sure someone can confirm this

Easter will be a brilliant event, there's NFAA fuel altereds (not that I'm biased in anyway..) fuellers, pro mods, alky cars, super mod, street eliminator and all the sportsman classes.

Up to the FIA era, the Easter event was traditionally the first round of the European Pro Comp championship, but it has never been an FIA round.

It was £5 to enter finals day at the 1993 SPR European Finals. Well actually it was FREE with every copy of the News Of The World but if you didn't know before setting off, then the bloke at the bottom of Airfield Rd would sell you a copy for £5.
