What size plates are people running?

My new toy has a very illegal 3x8" single line of text with a real dodgy back ground.

I was thinking of a 6x4" plate with the text on 2 lines, will this be too cheeky and will I get pulled?

Mine is 1 inch smaller all the way round than standard. Over two lines - police don't seem to mind!

I actually had the full size one for MOT in Jan, but have had to go back to the smaller one, as original fell off somewhere round the M25 the other week!

I have a 6" x 4" plate (2 lines of text) fitted and it doesn’t seem to cause any issues. I spoke to my MoT tester last year and he was of the opinion that as long as it looked like the right font, right background, right character spacing and the plate could be read at something like 20yds then he was happy.

May be posing in SP&TL to see if there are any more ‘official’ answers though.

my plate was slightly undersize and still perfectly readable
How undersize was it? The smallest font size you're allowed on a bike is 64mm

7" x 5"

PS ive just paid the fine over the phone ,spoke to a very nice sounding lady cool
So I should be safe on 7x5"???

i had the 7"x5" fitted when i got pulled for it

now i have FULL size bill board one on it

if i get pulled again on that bike with a non-conformin plate i will have it taken off me and issued with a "Q" plate...that is what the officer that delt with me said

he said if it was his choice he would ignore it but he said his hands were tied ...new initiative set out buy the DVLA and police forces across the country total clampdown on all non conforming plates, albeit on a car or bike ,spacing or font style/size

at the end of the day it's your choice but i know what im doing now frown

also the full size legal plate has to have a BSI mark on it otherwise it's non-conforming

I have just had a plate made up that is 6.5" x 6.5". Characters are on 2 lines but only 5 characters in total. That's the smallest legal plate you can have.

Top tip, snap a corner off the plate and screw that one corner back on the bike,(vibration must have fractured it officer) IF you get stopped its a £30 fine/rectification notice with no threat of Q plate.
