Preliminary investigation of my suspected timing chain tensioner failure is now pointing to the cams. On close inspection with lug holes last night all the rattly racket seems to be coming from the cam covers. I therefore suspect that the lumpy bits on the cams are a littless lumpy than they should be and consequently the buckets/followers are forked too. Has anyone else suffered this fault and if so what was done and how much was the remedy ? Time to call Richard Thorpe methinks.

The 4.2 that went in the racer went like hell, but upon inspection x months later by Dulfords was found to have knackered cams.

Cams 400 x 2
Followers 350 set
Shims 38 set
Labour and VAT brought it up to around 2K.

Since moving the lamda sensors to get a better reading devoid of extra air through the Ex gaps on a racer 350 was had on the rollers...which will do for now (4.5 in shed with good cams ready to go)

Seems to me that's a very respectable mileage for a cam. Even on the RV8 it's quite common for them to go at half that mileage.
