Anyone done a track day on the Silverstone GP circuit? I have an itch for it now, I think it might be to much Forza to blame.

Silverstone is top of my things to do list at the mo although a return visit too Angelsey might be quite cool given the new layouts they have.

So what the thoughts on Silverstone as a track? I’ve seen that it’s a bit of a power sapping circuit but I’m not put off by that. What’s the run off like

I did it a week ago for the first time.

It was a circuit I was not too tempted by initially, mainly because of the power issue (I drive an Elise, with a top speed of around 130, so I was assuming I would feel like I was going backwards next to some of the other cars).

However, the circuit is brilliant: loads of run off, some very nice corners, and some corners that can bite if you're not careful. I think its only problem is its lack of gradient, but it wasn't a massive issue on the day.

Well worth a try!

I did it recently for the first time and was very impressed. Relatively safe with lots of run off areas. At the end of the straights you are doing 130-140 (in a 997 3) but the circuit is so wide it feels slower. Most corners are quite technical, so it would be useful to book a session with an instructor to get a few useful tips, for example flat out through Maggots, no braking under the Bridge, etc. Generally very pleased, definitely going back soon. It makes Bedford look like a mickey mouse circuit!
