Suspension Upgrade - quick poll ?
Discussion
I'm going to replace the bushes on my '98 Griffith 500 with Powerflex and want to freshen-up the suspension which is now 30k and 10yrs old.
I do track days so want a small level of adjustment. I have seen people recommend Protech, Ohlins, GAZ adjustables and Nitrons.
Is there a clear favourite ?

HI.
I'm considering Racing Red(£550) for the Griff. Have alook at them. Haven't seen any reviews/comments yet so not sure what to do.
Otherwise, if you want fastish road and the occasional track day then I'd go for the GAZ (£500)/GAZ Gold(£600). Don't think i need anything more, especially for an extra £500+.

If you're dong a few track days then get Nitrons, absolutely superb.
No experience of Pro Techs. Ohlins are very expensive but I doubt many people on here would be able to tell the difference from Nitrons.
Steer clear of Gaz in my experience, but I know nothing of Racing Red.
The mantra with suspensionm remains, you get what you pay for.

Nitrons regardless of track days
if you are likely to go round corners reasonably quick then i say Nitrons nothing for the money to touch them.I use intrax but that is also because my brother uses them for his racing ferrari's. Good thing to think about is to change the silent blocks for rose joints because the silent blocks wear out too fast.
Anyway they transformed my car from dangerous handling to good handling. Still no ferrari but ok. Also change your stabi rubbers(think anti rollbar rubbers in english) for poly ones because they also wear out fast. But the rose joints you really have to get. Also available for other brands of suspension i guess. Like all racing cars have. Does not cost extra i think or very little ask for them. The silent blocks wear out too fast deu to the extreme angle of the shocks. Then make some heatshield to prevent the shocks from warming up by the manifolds. Use rain set up for normal road use.
It is not only the schocks. If you use normal anti rollbar rubbers and silent blocks the handling of the car will only last a few months. And then you have to put in new rubbers and silent blocks again so better do it at once. The standard anti rollbar rubbers are much too soft. TVR used ford parts.

ah someone else also started abot the rose joints i saw on other griff topic. Really important. My intrax shocks work on my ferrari so it is good for TVR too and if you ask the guy from intrax to adjust your shock or some special needs he will do so. But remind every few years you need a rebuild. But this is better then risking your life in a griff because those cars really handle badly with standard suspension and bushes. Just plain dnagerous car without proper suspension.
I installed GAZ shocks, and I agree with GreenGriff500. The change of shocks and the geo setup completely transformed my car from the wallowy, wouldn't go around corners, inspired no confidence car into something more resembling a sports car.
I'm your typical short-arms-deep-pockets kind of Yorkshireman so I've not tried Nitrons, nor do I intend to with the low mileage I cover and the maintenance schedule (read £££

they need.I'm back, and freezing my arse off :brrrrr:
I got back in the garage this weekend to work on the Griff. HID headlight upgrade, new front hubs, new steering track rod ends (an unplanned change forced on me because I hammered a split into its rubber boot trying to get it out of the hub)
I'm now researching what the hell I can do about the rubbish heater because I've been really surprised to find the heater motor is blasting air like a tornado through the open headlight access panel, but very little is getting up to the vents.
My next trip is to Kosovo a week on Tuesday to install the laptops I collected before leaving Express Dairies into Schools and hospitals. I'm quite looking forward to it.
Hope all is well with you chaps. How is the Chim going Frazer? Whats your ETA for getting it back so I can plan a trip to have a nosey
