Scraping & treating the chassis.
This has got to be the worst quality powder coating in the world.
The powder coating on the three Wedges I've had was much thicker & stronger. Really quite a lot thicker & stronger. The Wedge I've just sold was twice the age of this Griff & the chassis was almost perfect by comparison.
Anyhow, a couple of pics.....
After scraping. Used a wood chisel (for the sharp edges, to get the loose coating off), a file (for the rest) and the drill attachment (to get it clean).

Fertan chemical treatment.

All the crap.

Finish it tomorrow & finish it with Hammerite & clear Waxoil.
This is just a temp job to keep the rust at bay until I do the body off next year.
Which is a must if you ask me with the quality of this powder coating.

Top Job
I really don t think TVR used a proper powder coat when they applied the finish to there chassis's. When i stripped mine it was more like a two pack respay!! The guy who shot blast my chassis said if it was properly powdercoated he would not have been able to blast the paint off!!
Started mine in January - at the present rate this "winter" job is likely to eat into the summer. Nightmare job, especially in a single lock-up.
Did you notice areas under various cable ties (holding brake lines & wiring in place) had corroded badly on yours? The plastic ties on mine seem to have been rubbing away at the coating. I might try putting some kind of padding between replacements and re-painted chassis.

I reported this ages ago, my solution was 'adhesive closed cell foam rubber' cut in strips under the cable ties. My early chassis was pretty good apart from all the areas where it had been cut into by the ties.Dave
Well more or less got it all done. Proper soul destroying job, especially when you remember that your only scratching the surface really. All those 'upper bits' that the body sits on can only be got at by lifting the body for a proper job. Think I've nipped most of it in the bud though. All I have to do now is enjoy the summer & prepare for the body off job next year

Is this rubber tape only available in plain brown packaging from shops with blacked out windows?
Can you give me a trade name for the tape? It would need to provide enough movement to take the strain off the chassis paint, while being grippy enough to hold the ties in place.
Cheers
