Well I've put a deposit on a 96 4.0 in a gorgeous blue etc etc. I love it. Had wedges before but need something a bit more refined etc etc. Anyway as I'm leaving this guy on Friday he says that he's taken the cats out the exhausts !!! and not sure if he still has them!!!

So my questions are
I know it isn’t going to get through it's next MOT with out them on a 96 so
1) how many and where are they? I believe that there's one in the Y section on the manifold join and are there any in the system after that?
2) What's needed to get them back in? if that's possible? and or replace etc?
3) What kind of cost am I looking at as I've seen completes systems for £200 to just the Y section at £250.

Yes I'm going to haggle on the price so I need to know what I'm talking about before I want to speak to him.

Thanks in advance

He probably means he has taken the pre-cats out of the manifolds, as long as the main cat is still in the Y-piece (dustbin) you should be OK. The pre-cats just assist to get the cat hot to pass emissions from cold, just give at a blast before the MOT.... It's a plus point in most peoples view wink

No He says he's taken them all out! There is a guy selling the main one in the Y section for £250 is this an OK price for a second hand piece of kit?

If he is selling the car with an MOT just state to him you want at least £250-£300 off the price as if you took it for MOT tomorrow it would fail!! HAGGLE HAGGLE HAGGLE!!!!!!!!!!! good luck!

Would it have been wiser to have agreed price before you paid a deposit. He might not be so keen now he is holding some of your money. Good luck though smile

Agree with the haggle part - did you leave a large deposit, as if he won't budge can you afford to walk away and will he be willing to return your deposit?

why not ask him to mot it before you agree to pay the balance if he has previously got it through an mot maybe he can do it again.

If not walk away and find another - plenty for sale at good prices right now.

Just seems suspicious that he mentioned it as an after thought, is there anything else he hasn't mentioned - makes you think...

Whatever you decide to do good luck and you won't be disappointed it's a great place to be and the permanant grin everytime you drive it is priceless.
