Whilst preparing the engine for removal, and generally stripping stuff out of the engine bay, I have noticed TVR didn't do oppsite castings for things like the engine mounts, airbox brackets, etc. They just made two the same and fitted one the right way round, and one backwards to fit the other side.

So whilst the restoration happens, I am going to get good ole uncle to make me some new ones, but correctly. Purely for asthetic purposes.

One question. I know bugger all about design and metal integrity, etc. But why is there a big hole in the engine mount brackets?

All it seems to do is let muck and grime collect behind it. But I am happy to be corrected.

That chassis looks very clean and rust free.

Why the 'restoration' Cad?

They're fabricated not cast.

Really not worth the hassle. Unless you paint the airbox brackets you will never get them to look the same due to being plated.

No one will notice. wink

Hi Tim.
Yes, the chassis is in remarkably good nick, but there are plces that need some attention. Also the manifolds need welding or replacing, not decided yet.
Its one of those jobs where, the more you strip off the car, the more you want to strip off and renew or restore. Well, it is for me anyway nerd
Its kind of snowballed from just sorting the manifolds, to an engine out stripdown.
And I'm sure once the engine and box are aout, I'm going to contemplate taking the body off hehe

Sorry to slightly hijack the thread here but do all of you have the two pipes I've arrowed located where they are in Cad's picture?

Mine are the same and I find they prevent the front trim panel from sitting down properly without straining it.

I was thinking of relocating them below the crossmember.

Hi Ireland
There the oil pipes for the oil cooler and remote oil filter, there should nt be a problem relocating them.
Going back to the original post the engine mounts do differ slightly from each side, you couldnt swap them over. If you need a pair of very good exhaust manifolds i have a pair, pm if interested also have a engine mount bracket for the right side if you need it!!

Could be interested Ian. But need to get the o/s manifold off first to see what the condition of it is. N/s has already been welded, but how long it will last I don't know.
Kind of thinking about a new set of manifolds. But like almost every other aftermarket part for Cerberas, they are piggin expensive.
