I've made my decision.....the 111S is getting re-taxed today and out on the road! I'm fed up of looking out at the car sitting there all lovely and silver (lol) and not being allowed to use it cos I SORN'd her.
The sun is out and I feel the need....the need for SPEED! (Well, something like that at least) Roll on next weekend by which time my tax disc will have arrived in the post and I can take my p&j out for a spring blast.

The post offices are all closed today mate else I would have done, and i'm at work ALL week (8am to 6pm) and where I work is miles from the town centre, not worth trying to battle thru all the traffic so the net is the best way for me.
Last time I did it on the DVLA web site (for my missus' car) the new disc came thru in about 2 days which I was well impressed with, hope this one is as quick!

As for the car, I only SORN'd it because I knew i wouldn't want to use it in the bad weather and couldn't see the point in wasting 3-4 months of tax - why pay Mssrs Brown and Darling for the privilege of having the car sat on my own driveway? Call me tight if you like but i don't have money to throw down the drain like some people!

To keep within the law - yes. You can get done for not displaying a disc even though you have paid. In reality, so long as you drive from private land to private land, you will be fine. The police should get confirmation on the ANPR that you are taxed, and let you go. There is the ( hoepfully remote ) risk you could be reported for not displaying, but this would be very, very petty - and a good chance the DVLA would quash it.
Your real and immediate concerns are wardens and clampers. If you stop and do a bit of shopping, go for a burger, the car may get clamped - the odds are very high in London of this happening.
It may have changed now, but when the TV got involved and asked wardens why they did not run an ANOR check or call the DVLA to see if the car was, in fact, taxed - they said the phones were 'too heavy to carry all day'.
So they clamp - you pay. A release fee is far better than nothing for the council.
