what do to about a unmanned road block?
Discussion
late last night (about 1:00) i pulled out of local club (the orchard, wycombe) but couldn't turn right cos I saw a blue sign that said "police road block" with blues and beacons across the road. i then drove left and about 50m down the road was another block. there weren't any police around and there was no other way to get out of that strech of road so after about a minute i drove around the beacons. do you reckon that was the right thing to do? i then saw a police helicopter circling but no police or cars!?! how weird!!!

In ideal world, Police roadblocks should all be manned as a matter of course.
However, for example, ive been to many Road Accidents whereby its on a country road and the RTA is about half a mile or so further along that road. Due to lack of manpower and to save tying up a valuable Police resource redirecting one car every few minutes then we would put out some high Viz roadsigns.
All are set out in an approved manner and its extremly annoying when people just ignore these signs, as well as being an offence.
The trouble...(read. Pain in the Ar*e)with people going through unmanned cordons, even for a few yards to get to their houses withing sight of the cordon, is that people on the whole are lazy. They get out and move the signs but very rarely put them back. The gap then gets wider and some numpty does not even slow down at all before going through and when he turns the corner he is confronted by dead bodies etc etc or something equally horific.
I could go on and on!
Police Roadsigns are put out for a variety of reasons ranging from the protection of us at the scene of whatever the incident maybe, protection of the public and the preservation of evidence.
In your example,i would not have gone through, especially with a Helicopter floating around overhead....it could have been very dangerous!
Know what i mean.

So just stay sat between the two roadblocks until someone turned up?
Turn around and find another route....if you cant then call the Police and ask!

there was no other way out. the club was half way along a road and the only exit had two road blocks. everyone else just went through it anyway so I followed. cautiously i might add

Tim, are you saying they posted unmanned road blocks on the A404? Lets face it, not the quietest road around, and that straight is NSL and more than a mile long!
Seems a little dangerous
yeah it was on the A404 between hazlemere and amersham blocking any exit from the orchard. yeah its not the safest of roads is it.
